Default NEW NBA Dresscode - 19-10-2005, 02:37 PM

it seems it is stiring up some issues of NBA fans and the players. It seems that the new rule is when you are not playing in a game yet inside the building reppin the NBA you have to have a colar shirt and slacks no more baggy jeans throwbacks and shit

1. General Policy: Business Casual

Players are required to wear Business Casual attire whenever they are engaged in team or league business.

"Business Casual" attire means

# A long or short-sleeved dress shirt (collared or turtleneck), and/or a sweater.
# Dress slacks, khaki pants, or dress jeans.
# Appropriate shoes and socks, including dress shoes, dress boots, or other presentable shoes, but not including sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, or work boots.

Kevin Garnett has always looked good in suit and tie.

2. Exceptions to Business Casual

There are the following exceptions to the general policy of Business Casual attire:

a. Players In Attendance At Games But Not In Uniform

Players who are in attendance at games but not in uniform are required to wear the following additional items when seated on the bench or in the stands during the game:

# Sport Coat
# Dress shoes or boots, and socks

b. Players Leaving the Arena

Players leaving the arena may wear either Business Casual attire or neat warm-up suits issued by their teams.

c. Special Events or Appearances

Teams can make exceptions to the Business Casual policy for special events or player appearances where other attire is appropriate -- e.g., participation in a basketball clinic.

3. Excluded Items

The following is a list of items that players are not allowed to wear at any time while on team or league business:

# Sleeveless shirts
# Shorts
# T-shirts, jerseys, or sports apparel (unless appropriate for the event (e.g., a basketball clinic), team-identified, and approved by the team)
# Headgear of any kind while a player is sitting on the bench or in the stands at a game, during media interviews, or during a team or league event or appearance (unless appropriate for the event or appearance, team-identified, and approved by the team)
# Chains, pendants, or medallions worn over the player's clothes
# Sunglasses while indoors
# Headphones (other than on the team bus or plane, or in the team locker room)

phill jackson came out and said a lot of the basketball players are taking they styles from Hip-hop and trying to dress like tha rappers and its unprofessional to the nba most people took it as a racist comment like jackson of the pacers who is 27 who wore all the chains he could yesterday to speak out aginst this

he said he will ware a suite so he isn't finned but he feels the nba isn't trying to clean up the image of the players but trying to take away whole cultures and styles and peoples way of life by saying they can't wear these things

cause in all actuality all they are doing is saying you can't dressed thugged out no more

no more timz no more throwbacks u can't even wear a chain what do yall think

phill jackson spoke out with what soom take as a racist comment "

i dont think thats a racist comment, all he said was the truth they do get their styles from hiphop, rappers are setting the trend, the ones who thought it was racist are being a little too sensitive here i think

and about the dress code i think is a good thing because even though its a game it is also a business and these players get paid millions of dollars the least they could do is wear a suit or nice clothes to represent the league, at least during league business.. makes sense to me

i agree, i don't think the comments were racist.

and as far as the dress code, it's just like having to wear a uniform to work. at least they get to choose their clothes, they all could have had to wear a mcdonalds type of uniforms while in the building. the choice is theirs, if they really don't like the dress code, they should retire/quit.

and that jackson on the pacers is a thug. in that brawl with the pistons i seen him kick a fan in the stands. rockin' a chain ain't got nothing to do with culture.

I think personally that this dress code is slightly extreme....in a way I dislike dresscodes, but I do see the reason for them, but I think this one is a bit too strict personally...

If I ran a big association like the NBA or a giant company I'd want my employees to wear suits, look and act in a professional manner because if they dont and fuck up that shit will make you and your company look bad

i think its too strick too

and jackson may be a thug but that doesn't mean you attack what he wears

im like what people wear is a reflection of them and the only people really in the nba who dress like this are young african americans so to take that away is kinda attacking them

plus if they didn't want the nba to start looking like a music video they should have stopped drafting players out of high shcool these people are at oldest 21 now how els they gonna dress?

jus a few of them have said something, and i was reading another article where pierce talks about he's gon wear what he feels so he's gon get fined on some days, iverson spoke against it as well and jackson who said they was being racist basically said im gonna wear what they say cuz i dont want to be fined and you listen to your employer

thats what im talkin bout right there, these ppl have made it possible for you to earn millions and you cant even wear a suit when you on business representin them?

i think this whole thing is just for the kids with baller role models. it's so that the kids can see someone shining without the bling, which is getting rare these days.

i grew up wearing uniforms, so i'm not a fan of them, but as long as the players are on business, they got to do their job. what they wear reflects thier company, they can bling it up when they leave the building or wear it under their shirt. it shouldn't really be a big deal.

I dont think that anyone here has really hit it on the Head but Dubz... I mean how are you goin to tell ppl that MAKE THE NBA wear suits while goin to there JOB... I mean how many of you go to work and dont put your shirt on until you are Ready to CLOCK IN or Ready to WORK.... Well there "SHIRT" is there JERSY...... I mean this is SO FUCKIN STUPID.... Here are some Quotes from Players White and Blk that Play up in the NBA:

''I feel like if they want us to dress a certain way, they should pay for our clothes.''
-- Allen Iverson

"I think it's a load of crap. I understand what they're trying to do with [forbidding] hats and 'do rags and [retro] jerseys and stuff. That's fine. But I don't understand why they would take it to this level. I think it's basically retarded.

"I don't like the direction they're going, but who am I?"

-- Spurs leader Tim Duncan, quoted in the Oct. 19 San Antonio Express-News. Duncan also said he might choose to stay in the locker room on nights he isn't playing.

"I just think people should be able to express themselves. I know they took out the 'do rag stuff; I understand that. As far as guys wearing what they want to wear, I am all for that. Who really cares about what they wear from the bus to the locker room?"
-- Nets swingman Vince Carter, quoted in the Oct. 19 Bergen (N.J.) Record

"What they do, just like anything, they go to the extreme so they can get what they really want. It's like any negotiation. You ask for something completely outlandish, knowing that we'll meet you halfway when halfway is what you really wanted."
-- Nets forward Richard Jefferson, quoted in the Oct. 19 New Jersey Bergen Record

"I have no problem dressing up ... because I know I'm a nice-looking guy. But as far as chains, I definitely feel that's a racial statement. Almost 100 percent of the guys in the league who are young and black wear big chains. So I definitely don't agree with that at all."
-- Pacers swingman Stephen Jackson, quoted in the Oct. 19 Indianapolis Star

"I thought it was funny they can't wear any of the jewelry and stuff like that. That's stricter than the dress code in a lot of office buildings."
-- Heat head coach Stan Van Gundy, quoted in the Oct. 19 Washington Post

"No it's not a big deal, not to me. Sometimes you feel lazy and you don't feel like putting some clothes on, but this is a job. We are going to have fun, but this is a job and we should look like we're going to work, that's the way they feel."
-- Cavs swingman LeBron James, quoted in the Oct. 19 Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Personally, I like it. I like to dress up. I kind of came in [the league] when it was ... sort of an unwritten code or law or whatever, that you look nice. It even got to the extreme, with guys [who] would go all out with the designer clothes and so forth. It was a little weird, the NBA turned into a fashion show. But I think it's good."
-- Magic forward Grant Hill, quoted in the Oct. 19 Washington Post

"You knew it was coming in. I've got a couple of suits in the closet I've got to dust off. Hey, they make the rules; you've got to abide by them.''
-- Celtics swingman Paul Pierce, quoted in the Oct. 19 Boston Herald

"The players have been dressing in prison garb the last five or six years. All the stuff that goes on, it's like gangster, thuggery stuff. It's time. It's been time to do that. But one must remember where one came from. I was wearing bib overalls when I was a player one time. But I wasn't going to the games or events in them.
-- Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, quoted in the Oct. 19 San Gabriel Valley Tribune

"I don't have that many suits; I may have to recycle. I can't go to Men's Wearhouse because my arms are too long. I can make it work, though. If you've got 10 suits, you've really got 30. You just have to mix and match 'em right."
-- Bucks guard Desmond Mason, quoted in the Oct. 19 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"I think they're coming on way too strict. Movie stars in L.A., they're not always in jackets and ties, and they're setting trends, and we're looked at in the same light."
-- Timberwolves forward Wally Szczerbiak, quoted in the Oct. 7 Minneapolis Star-Tribune

"You get into a city at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning off a back-to-back, you don't want to have put all of that stuff on."
-- Magic guard DeShawn Stevenson, who recently wore a shirt to practice featuring the image of bikini-clad Halle Berry. This garnered approval of teammates, according to an Oct. 7 Florida Today story.

as much as we like to have superstars in the nba, it's still a team sport. they're paid as much as they are to represent their team and their league to millions of people. if their jobs were paying $8 an hour, nobody would care how they dressed. they'd probably be given a hat and shirt, and could wear it as they like. but that's a part of why they're only making $8 an hour. as long as they're in the building, they're on the clock, that's part of the job.

Quote:
''I feel like if they want us to dress a certain way, they should pay for our clothes.''
-- Allen Iverson
if they don't want to dress up, they can wear their jump suit's with the team logo on it. i'm sure they can get that kind of stuff for free too, cause i've seen nba players wearing their team branded clothes just to go out and do regular shit. ai's got a $16 million contract, and he wants someone to pay for suits? he should be considering it like it were an investment.

i agree that the jewelry is a bit much, but it ain't got nothing to do with the culture. if you truly believe that some hats, clothes and jewelry make you or your culture, please, take a minute and check yourself.

to make into the nba alone is a proof of their success. shit, they make so much money that it has to be public knowledge. they don't need to flaunt it with diamonds and shit. but they can. now they just gotta do it on their own time.

whether or not i'm rockin' my rings, chains and whatever, doesn't change who i am or what i'll do. whether or not you're wearing your jewelry won't change you either. i don't know when/if any of you guys are wearing what and it really isn't changing how we interact is it?

if you don't believe take your jewelry off the next you're here and see if anyone notices

I think they should dress nice or presentable or whatever, when they're on tv or in front of all these people, but it shouldn't be SO strict
