Default Watchmen - 11-03-2009, 02:48 PM

Firstly, HA HAHAHA HA! I beat you to it Clint.

Alright, enough shenanigans on to the movie. When it comes down to it, I enjoyed this movie, however, I can say if you did not read the book, you will ask a lot of questions and probably not enjoy it. Which is what my friend did to me during this movie. Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach was easily the best performance in this movie, the worst would be Malin Akerman as Miss Jupiter aka Silk Spectre II. The movie omitted a lot of what the book had such as the entire story of The Black Freighter, which lead to the guy at the newspaper guy, and the black guy reading The Black Freighter being omitted (they were rather big characters in the book). However, The Black Freighter was released on dvd before the movie was in theatres. The visuals of this movie were amazing, and the dialouge was well done (except for you Malin Akerman), the costumes were good, and the overall story was very true to the novel. The alternate ending did not harm the story what so ever, it had the same effect, so there were no loose ends. Overall as a fan of the novel I am pleased with the movie. However if you are going to see it, know a bit about the book before you go purchase your ticket, or you're wasting your money.

P.S. There's full out sex scene, and a titty shot (HOWEVER MALIN YOUR BOOBS ARE SEVERLY SMALLER THAN YOUR COMIC COUNTERPART!, oh ya and full out man dong.....just don't stare directly at the dong, you'll go blind

Rating: 8 out of 10

I wasn't gonna do a review.....but since you taunted me like that i figure awww hell why not...

NOW....b4 i go in....let me say this. Movie is rated R for a reason....please be mature....cuz wen you go in the movie theater you will see the following a few times during the movie:

(CP dont bann me lol)
I just put that cuz some people are like "OMG He has a blu dick" or "OMG look his cock is out"
I'm 10000000% positive that the people who seen the movie either has a penis...or has seen one before.....no big deal honestly.....hey...some of them prolly had dick in they mouth on quite a few occassions....now....on to MY review.

Basic Premis (Stole from Yahoo):
In an alternate 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen?

As Hof stated...I wouldn't recommend seeing this movie without being familiar with the source material. HOWEVER....you don't have to be familiar with it to understand it...I know a few people who enjoyed it and didn't even know it existed before the trailor popped up. You still may have a few questions though (Like: "Whys is the blue guy naked? And why is he blue? But most importantly.......why is he naked?"). ANYWAY. I am familiar with the source material and from that perspective I will say that this is as close to the source we will get for an adaptation. Watchmen is VERY true to the original Graphic Novel granted there are some changes (that still capture the soul of the original if you ask me).

Having seen it twice.....uh...once legally......I had about a week to think about how I felt about this movie. Let me start off with IM IN LOVE WITH THE ORIGINAL story and I think the GN is one of--if not--the greatest piece of fiction I've ever experiance....in ANY medium (books, music, television, movies...ect.), I have to admitt that I was torn when I watched it the first time. Yeah....they made changes to the story....I was happy with the changes actually...I wasn't happy with what they left out. Now, had they included the WHOLE book into the movie....it would be at least 5 (No kidding), FIVE HOURS LONG. And thats without the extra shit thats inbetween chapters. For Watchmen to fit completely on screen it would best be a minnie series. But instead we got a three hour movie with alotta stuff crammed in it.

Now your prolly sayin "3 hours? geez thats a long movie"...well its not long enough. The beginning is set up beautifully.....paced perfectly...and what not...but somewhere in the middle it feels rushed. Yes....a three hour movie somehow still seems rushed. Also....Zack Snyder....uses slow-motion...just a LITTLE too much....its not bad....its only 1 or 2 scenes that I wish he didnt put it in....other than that...thats cool.

NOW.....as Hoffer said...Visually....FUCKING AMAZING.....I give the film a 10 out of 10 visually. Perfect. Soundtrack.......soundtrack was cool....its a period piece so theres no recent music in it (maybe in the credits iono tho i aint watch the credits) but theres two scenes where I felt the music is out of place. One is the extra long sex scene.....which makes you feel uncomfortable at how long it is....is this Watchmen....or Watchmengetiton? The other.....well Im not gonna spoil it....but I felt the music aint fit the scene even though I happen to like the particular song they used.

Action. Action was alright to me......of course alot of the fight scenes defied the laws of physics it was cool. Wasnt too much. Violence......I love violence and this movie has a fair share of it......blood guts and glory...although some of it is IN YOUR FACE FAKE....I shrugged it off though lol.

Acting. One of the films weaknesses. Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffery Dean Morgan.....and the dweeb who plays Dan/Nite Owl (forgot his name....PATRICK WILSON....THERE WE GO THATS IT). Were the three best performances. I would put Billy Crudip (spelling) who played Dr. Manhattan, who is my favorite character, but many people disagree so whatever. Malin Akerman's performance DID suck.....but it didnt suck as bad as I thought it would be.......but she sucked.....*shrugs*. So acting was pretty cool. (I found the nose on the guy who played Nixon overexaggerated and distractingly funny though....but thats how it looks in the GN)

Special FX's and CG.....it was alright for the most part. Didnt like how they did Bubastis (spelling) and I didnt like how they didnt explain her she just comes outta nowhere and everyone acts like she isnt there or she was there the whole time. (Bubastis is Ozymandias mutated tiger lynks cat thing.....its explained in the book and appears more often but pops outta nowhere in the movie....shame really.) Some of the violence in the film that involved CG looked fake.....like they didnt even try....but it didnt bother me that much.....might bother you though.

Overall....If your familiar with the GN you'll see it has its flaws.....but even though its flawed I love this movie. If your not familiar with the GN....you'll like it prolly for its entertainment value....not the deeper meaning and the philisophical meanin the story has....because its hard to transferr that on film I guess. I give it 8 out of 10 as well....however I will reserve my full FULL judgment for when the extended version comes out and I see what they left out.

so yeah

Watchmen.......

By the way...prolly spelling errors.....but you know.....Fuck You

i saw the the midnight premiere of the watchmen and read the book a few dozen times before that's and i can honesty one if not the best comic movie adaptations ever made its almost spot on there are some differences in plot you may or might not like, but the character acting is great you'll probably find yourself relating one or more of characters theirs a human side represented if you loved the book and not a fanatic purest or Alan Moore worshiper ( he wants nothing too do with the movies and said he would never see it which he in his right to do but i think even he would think they did his story justice) Great movie i recommend seeing it. And if your not comfortable see blue man wang you wont like it lol.

Well mh, since it's true to the greatest graphic novel of all time, I don't get how it could be unorganized. Maybe the reviewer just doesn't like comic books?

thats understandable. i never knew this was a comic book until after the movie came out..maybe thats why it got negative reviews..what company made the comic book? not marvel/dc right?

The graphic novel Watchmen is written by Alan Moore, illistrated by Dave Gibbons, colored by John Higgins, and indeed published by DC Comics.

"Watchmen" might be the first GREAT movie of 2009.

I know, as a fan of comic books & graphic novels, it is in our nature to point out the sizeable differences between the original storylines & the adapted movie screenplays but what I've come to realize is that if we, as fans, don't learn to separate one entity from the other, we'll never be able to appreciate ANY adaptation of these stories we grew up with.

That being said, I thought Zack Snyder did a phenomenal job deconstructing the superhero archetypes. I thought the ending got a little "lazy" but it's easily the best action movie that's come out in the last 9 months.

It's definitely worth the full price of admission. A+

No doubt I will be buying this on DVD, in particular for the extended cut and the black freighter and other goodies. As for the movie itself,,,,in the end, it truly only had ONE true flaw. When I read the original series one by one month by month back in '86, I CARED about all the characters,,,they had heart and soul. In the film adaptation,,well,,there are some great performances, no doubt,,there just wasnt enough time to really fill out the characters and make you sympathize with them. Kudos to Zack for taking the project on however because if nothing else,,Watchmen was the most DARING film you are likely to see anytime soon. The sex, the violence, and the overall themes are all there,,and they aren't something you wanna see with you parents even though everyone knows they are true human nature.
