Default Cam'ron Killa Season Review - 18-05-2006, 10:16 PM

i think cams holdin a gun to his own head on this one... lol

Cam'ron, Killa Season (Atlantic, 2006)
You guys like Cam'ron, right? His last album, Purple Haze, only sold 6 copies, but it developed quite the following in the hipster community. For this follow-up, Cam pulled every publicity stunt you can imagine, from dissing Jay-Z to releasing a low-budget Killa Season movie. I wonder how well all this will work though when it's said and done with. This one might not even do as well as Purple Haze.

KILLA CAM...

Cam lets yet another one of his bag handlers take the intro. Perfect!

HE TRIED TO PLAY ME...

I think XXL might have posted this at some point, but Cam sings on this. It's pretty retarded and not really that amusing.

LEAVE YOU ALONE...

About how Cam can't leave the hood. I can't believe they're still using those damn sped-up vocal samples here. Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ.

LIVING A LIE...

Who the fuck is "Mo' Money?" Cam may address his shooting situation here. I wasn't really paying attention.

WE MAKE CHANGE...

Features Juelz Santana and sounds suspiciously like "Get 'Em Girls."

VOICEMAIL...
.
This is probably amusing, but it's barely audible.

WET WIPES...

The second half of the "Touch It or Not" video that takes place in the Waffle House. About how Cam's going to take someone's woman.

TOUCH IT OR NOT...

So Lil' Wayne's on this? I didn't remember that from the video. His verse is amusing and almost as childish as Cam's, which is saying something.

WAR...

Oh goody, more Hell Rell! The chorus borrows from that one Juelz Santana song from his first album. They're repeating themselves a lot on this album.

TRIPLE UP...

Cam drops a couple of nice verses and then lets another one of his weed carriers foul everything up.

I.B.S...

Yep, this is really about irritable bowel syndrome. Cam seems especially adamant that he was never on the pipe, which I took to mean he used to be on the pipe.

GET YA GUN...

The song is nothing special, but Cam's flow here is especially impressive here.

WHITE GIRLS...

This is about how awesome white girls are, right? I can get with that.

GIRLS, CASH, CARS...

Another one that sounds vaguely like "Get 'Em Girls." I wish they would've varied up the production here a lot more.

DO YA THING (REMIX)...

Cam rhymes over yet another Earth, Wind and Fire song. "That's the Way of the World," I think.

GET 'EM DADDY (REMIX)...

I don't recall the original, but I can't imagine it was worse than this. Lots of bag handlers on this, too.

VOICEMAIL 2...

Similar to the first one, I couldn't make out what was being said here.

SOMETHING NEW...

Old school-sounding. Anything would be a nice break from all this monotonous Dipset bullshit, but this is kinda nice anyway.

YOU GOTTA LOVE IT...

One history's all-time underwhelming dis tracs. The shit with the sandles is still kinda funny though.

LOVE MY LIFE...

Some sentimental-sounding bullshit.

COMMENTS: Dipset fans may really enjoy this, but I can't imagine that a lot of the people who embraced Purple Haze will find much to like here.... Cam still kicks lots of wacky shit on the mic, but the production is extra low budget. I don't recall there being a lot of big name producers on the last album other than Kanye, but that album had several hits on it... This is like a major label mixtape by comparison.

BEST TRACKS: "Touch It or Not" "I.B.S." "Something New"

overall i wasnt really feelin this disc... short of breath so i can be done talkin about it lol...

Cam'ron, Killa Season (Atlantic, 2006)
Let's get it straight. Killa Season isn't the worst since O'Charley's bread (I'm sorry but the bread sucks). Most people who were Cam'ron fans during the pre-Diplomats era will say that the album is a total flop. Post-Dipset fans will either say it's his hottest album or it's almost as good as Purple Haze. This is how I feel about the album. And yes I did buy it. Not bootleg

KILLA CAM......
40 Cal's opening act helped to build the anticipation of the album. Cam'ron flowed over a decent beat. Not his best but it'll do. 3/5

HE TRIED TO PLAY ME......
Yeah, Cam'ron might have tried to get his Ja Rule on in this one, but it was evident that he wasn't trying hard to signs. I dig the concept of the song. Most hated it. 3/5

LEAVE YOU ALONE.....
Didn't feel the beat. Nothing wrong with sample beats but this wasn't a good one. I didn't hear this one in the movie either. Favorite line: "Honestly, you thought I quit like Tomjanovich" 2/5

LIVING A LIE.......
I wanted to skip this one. Not a great song. 2/5

WE MAKE CHANGE.......
This one was in the trailer for Killa Season. Decent beat. I liked when he sped up his rhyming style. Good hook too. 3.5/5

WET WIPES......
Here we go. One of my favorites. Nice production from The Alchemist. Cam drops some serious heat one this beat. Favorite line: "Y'all -----z know the deal, pop the golden seal. Candy apple rain drops, I'm 'Soul For Real'" 4/5

SUCK IT OR NOT.......
The un-official member of Dipset Lil' Wayne drops by one this banger. The title explains it all (NO BROKEBACK) 4.5/5

WAR........
Crazy intro. Hell Rell is a beast. That's about it. Decent joint. 3.5/5

TRIPLE UP......
Not a big 40 Cal fan but he brings it on this joint. 3/5

I.B.S.
Yeah, like Wun said, it's about Cam's problem with irritable bowel syndrome. I like the beat alot. The hook was very weak. 3.5/5

GET YA GUN.....
One of my favorite beats on the album. Cam'ron fits perfect with this one. Love the concept of the whole song with the PSA's. 4/5

WHITE GIRLS.......
Note: IT'S NOT ABOUT A GIRL. It's just another song about C-R-A-C-K. Maybe it's because I've had this song on my iPod forever, but I'm tired of it. I still like the joint though. 3.5/5

GIRLS, CASH, CARS......
BEST JOINT ON THE ALBUM! Beat is crazy and it sounds nothing like "Get Em' Girls" My favorite on the album and on the movie. 5/5

DO YA THING....
The original version had a better beat. Download it to hear it. Everybody like EWF though. 3/5

GET EM' DADDY REMIX
OMG. This is as good as the original version (DIPSET:MEMORIAL DAY) Shouts to The Heatmakerz for this one. By the way, Cam dropped his verse 2 days after he got shot. DID U HEAR THAT BEAT? 5/5

SOMETHING NEW.....
This song is hot. Nice beat and of course he fits perfect with it. Watch out for Hell Rell's album "For The Hell of It" this summer. 4/5

YOU GOTTA LOVE IT.....
I hate that they changed the beat. The original was so good. And the diss isn't that bad. It seems that way cause he's going against "THE BOSS" Favorite line: "I know he 40 years old, I DON'T RESPECT MY ELDERS" 4.5/5

LOVE MY LIFE.....
If you've never seen Killa Season, he spit this song during a funeral. HUH? I love the beat. Different is always good. 4/5

OVERALL: 4/5
The album is a banger. It gets better as the album goes on. You should watch Killa Season before listening to this. It'll make you appreciate the album more. Most people wont take this review serious because y'all Dipset haters. It doesn't hurt my feeling. I'm used to the hate. I like the Lakers............DIPSET BITCH!

BEST SONGS:
Killa Cam, Wet Wipes, Suck It or Not, Girls-Cash-Cars, Get Em' Daddy Remix

COME FUCK WIT THE SET!!!

Guess the point between these two reviews meet at a statement made by NiceWitIt...

Quote:

Two very different opinions... Two very different fans... I am in fact a Cam'ron fan... As far as the dipset movement goes I don't fully support it and really, honestly feel Cam has flipped his style inadvertantly for the sake of dipset fans... He probably lost a few fans from the release of Purple Haze and even more so with the release of Killa Season... The movie, a flop... The album, in my opinion a flop...

But it comes down to presenting the question, does Cam still have his glory day features or has he himself become a product?

You be the judge.

Wun~

I dont agree with that because no one was screaming "DIPSET" until Diplomatic Immunity came out and that's really when he changed his style. Yeah, you might agrue that he changed it when he released Come Home With Me but no one knew who The Diplomats were then.

Dissing Jay-Z. What are you thinking Cam? Seriously, maybe back in the day when you were with Murda Mase. I mean come on.
