Default Your thoughts on ripping beats? - 12-11-2007, 11:13 PM

Earlier in the shoutbox there was talk of ripping beats from soundclick, I got pretty pissed off at the people talking about it, and some people think I was OTT so... what are your thougths on ripping beats? is it ok, or is it not?

DISCUSS

[Edit: Just to clarify, I am not talking about the beats that are available for MP3 download.]

Of ourse its wrong, only time you should do something like that is a sampling, and usually 4 me i tweak it soo much you cant tell what it is or, what it was.....beat jacking is wrong.

specially when you make beats your self.!!

Well this is how I feel:

Ripping beats overall is not good. So is pirated software :offtopic: but anyways i seen someone else on anohter site talkin about it and they said its the risk when u take wen u upload beats. Like MJL said they shud put tags all over their beats anyways. Yea da software people are makin money and some people on soundclick are too. But maybe not the ones i took. But chances are, since im no popular fella around the U.S., the chances of them hearing my song are 10000 to 1. If they heard my song evidently i must be gettin paid from usin it somehow so then I would have no problem paying them for the beat. Mixtape=promotional use only and sometimes (like today for instance) i ripped beats that were ripped off of someone else. Yes, thats right, someone was actually SELLING a single that i heard somewhere else. I ripped anyways. Its just my opinon though. To me ripping beats is about the same as downloading warez, cracks, albums, mixxtapes, games, and other things illegally.

EDIT: And it wudnt be a good thing to claim it as ur beat which i wud never do. You could also give them credit too like on an outro.

Exactly why I stopped uploading beats...in any way shape or form. I hated when I would have a beat on the net and then the next thing I knew there was another page with some horrible wannabe 50 Cent on it.

I really don't mind people jacking beats to listen to, or even approaching me to use if your actually a decent songwriter...but when these shitty potheads are attempting to rap its just ridiculous. I just don't want to be associated with those kids.

I used to tag my shit then I stopped doing it. Now you guys are just basically making me tag the shit outta everything once again. Theres tons of free beats on SC and thats coo but when theres a beat sold to a artist who has rights and signed papers and paid money for his beat and he comes across somebody with the same beat all hell is going to break loose. To be honest I know how to do all that soundclick jackin w/o a program but Im not that low to do that. The worst shit is when you actually made something and somebody argues with you saying you didn't make it. This is just disappointing imho.

If u rip a beat and claim it as ur own, u should be sued.
Rippin somebody elses work n sayin its yours is reallly low.
If u rip a song off somebodies myspace or whatever, ur givin them promotion, so I dont care a bout that.
