Why do you do it?

Yeah I see lots of talented beat makers/producers here and elsewhere and I see similar complaints around boards like “there’s no money in beat making/producing anymore,” “artist don’t respect producers,” “why pay when I can get beats for free” etc.

What attracted you to making music and what keeps you doing it – money, fame, praise, challenges, love of the art, or just a hobby?

i mean ive always wanted to be involved in some aspect of the music industry ever since i was about 5, i kinda fell off for a while focused on sports an im recently really getting into the fix, i do it because i love music of course i'd like to be famous an make lots of money one day but even if i dont i could still see myself making music for the rest of my life

I do it for the love of music.If your in it for the money then stop.Because the money doesnt come right away. Dont get it twisted I want money,but I know that will come eventually if im makin the right moves.But mainly I make music because I have a passion for it. Hopefully one day I will be able work with a lot of todays mainstream who is in it for the love of music too

i grew up watching my uncle rap.
they used to write for me.
i was at least 9 or 10 feel me.
love lyrics.
after this im finna write a lil sum'n.
the beats move me tho.
i dont give a fuck what you're saying if the beat is garbage.
i say that for the best artist dead/alive.
tony yayo was in an interview one time talkin' about the subject.
they asked him how he felt about producers.
he said sum'n like "some(producers) charge too much."
"Why go pay 10,000 for a beat when i could go to the streets, where it's cheaper and they(the producer's/as well as rappers)do it with more heart.
That's what you call love for it.
Even if you dont make it, keep making music.
At least i know i will.

i do it 'cause i like makin' beats. everybody else who is doin' for money need to get the fcuk out the game and quit fcukin' up the real producers with these free and $25 dollar beats.

i'll be makin' music for the rest of the life. if i don't sell any beats i don't care. i already graduated from college and i refuse to sign a fcuked up contract like 99% of the ppl on tv have done.

so i'll make my money. if i make money from beats than that is just an added bonus of the artform.

I do it cause it just feels like the thing I was meant to do.
I love to express myself and do all kinds of creative shit like drawing, painting and computer art.
Makin beats for 3 years and I haven't made a dollar.

No need to rush into it, I'll do it properly and when I'm ready.

I always have been wanting to be a part of Making Music....I do it mainly for love...Im not looking to make it Big...because as of right now Im living my Dream....which was to make my own Music....

ive been doing this for a minute now and to be honest the money has never really been an option ......ive had to work hard to get the equipment i have with the few but apreciated contributions to my studio .....i do this for the love of musik...for the people that come up to me and call me by my nickname......i get like woa ...u know me .......i do this for the feeling i got on stage last night at my first show at the airliner club in L.A {be on the look out for the real 626 on youtube} thats what its all for ...cause the radio musik gives no real message or info for the streets where we aint ballin or tryin to be ....we get the hoes for free...... UNDERGROUND MUSIK IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THE URBAN COMUNITIES WHERE YOU GOTTA BE REAL TO SURVIVE...
for all the rest there is power stations and all the other payola driven corporate radio stations that dont play no dope shit only money driven musik that hurts our own and makes money of the artist ......E40 SAID IT BEST... IF I SELL JUST 10,000 RECORDS IN THE STREETS ...THEN IM GHETTO FABULOUS ... NOW WE TALKIN ABOUT CONSTANT GRINDING AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS FOR A LIVING .......
