I'm no Sound Engineer but I think any books that teach the basics on things such as: (Compressors, Limiters, EQ's, Reverb etc.) will help. My suggestion would be to take classes on Audio Engineering if your really serious about it.

Ill pass on the classes(thanks though),I like the fact of home schooling myself and if that fails then I will probably consider class. Anybody recommend good books? Im going to be using FL and mostly Reason for producing and mastering tracks)

I wouldn't do books id do a sound engineering course like i did which in my area is 3 years that is the best and most effective way of learning from somebody who knows what they're talking about, unfortunatly i spent more time gettng drunk and high and didn't learn much so i left after 1 year knowing little and i regret it now.

If I understand the question correctly, you need to start off by learning how to mix. Recording is never a problem, besides mic level. Practice recording. Get a friend that loves to rap and record often. Once you learn your own personal way of creating a sound you like, and other people like it as well, you are good to start charging like a minimum $20 per hour. As time passes you can keep the same price or change it up. I personally never stopped charging $20 per hour. Once you become really good at it you are the guy with the real good prices, and good quality combined.

    Good Luck with everything
