I start with a bass line. Then I add drums, rhythm guitar or piano then I come up with a melody.

prolly drums to get the feel, but, sometimes it starts from just a melody depends.

If im sampling, usually chop up the sample and lay a basic amount of drums. chop the sample better, and lay a baseline. Then I go back and make the drums better, create drops and the intro. at the end I eq if i dindt already before, and mix the track.

Composed I find a lead and mess with that, then get some harmony sounds to go with that. Drums, and then random other sounds. (hits, drop horns etc.)

    1.) Melody
    2.) Drums
    3.) Bassline

Its much easier for me to make a beat once I base it around a melody :D

I about 99% of the time start with the melody, but I usually make the whole beat in my head. Then begin to build it.

I dunno just depends on the mood im in, most of the time i start out playing with some drums just to get a idea of the vibe im goin for, then i usually lay a nice bass line and melody...

    Usual stuff

    1. Melody
    2. Drums
    3. Mute drums, it just helps me not to let the track grow on me, then feel like its complete.
    4. Bassline
    5. Drums again, to make them go more with the melody layers, loosen them up some.

    R&b

    1. Melody
    2. Bassline
    3. Drums.
    4. Melody again, more so pads and atmospheric stuff in the background.

    Fast tempo, dance, pop

    1. Drums, usually these tracks are more driven by percussion.
    2. Melody, could get away with a cheesy one if the drums stick out enough.
    3. Bassline.

    usually..

1.basic drum pattern (for tempo's sake the metronome sucks)
    2.melodies
    3.re-do drums
    4.effects/mix/master

my order really depends on the type of beat i make. with dirty south and r&b tracks i start with the instruments then drums. one thing i've learned in mixing is no to concentrate too much on your strongest instrument. i'm a drummer so i either add them last or mute them as i compose the instruments. after i lay down the concept i add percussion if needed then sfx, and finally mix it up n down and add effects.

i usually start off with the melody because to me that's what engages the listener to wanna keep listening. On top of the melody you put some sick ass drum patterns and you cant go wrong.

I usually go drums, melody, baseline, supporting instruments or harmonies. Depends on if I have a pre determined melody or I need to fool around for a while to get something.

    hm.

If I'm using a melody that I played on the piano before, or hotugh up I'll start with the melody.

But 95% of the time its:
    1.Drums
    2.Melody
    3.Bassline
    4.Background synths and strings
    5.extra percussion sounds
    6.mix/master/effects/EQ

and every time I add a new instrument in FL Studio I put it on the mixer..

    check out my stuff bro!
