it depends what you need it for, really. if your just gonna play notes on it, then you can get something like an evolution e-keys for about $50. if you needcontrols like pitch bend, mudulation, etc.. then the behringer UMX series is good for about $80.

I use an M-Audio Keyrig 49 and i use it for notes, samples and drums. It was $100, And it has pitch bend, modulation, and volume.

in that case, forget about midi. youll either want a real piano or an electric piano. midi keyboard are pretty useless for learning to play the real thing, from the size to the weight of the keys.

He's right. A real one is the way to go but it can be done on midi. My neighbor has a keyrig 49, the keys are to narrow and springy it feels like plastic shit. Mine is ok, when I first got it, I talked to the worker and he explained the semi weighted keys, but if you've used real keys before you can tell the difference. Some lack the real feel and some are real good. The velocity isn't always accurate with programs neither. If you do decide to get a midi keyboard it would be smart to have at least 61 keys. You are not gonna like trying to play something with both hands and trying to hit the octave button lol.

contrary to popular belief u can learn piano on a midi if u get about $200 u can get an 88 key midi m audio makes a good one the keystation pro 88 so u get the full size keyboard with semi weighted keys and has like 60 knobs and sliders...i had one and loved it ull never have to buy another midi again unless u want something more portable....
