The thing about beat makin is that you dont have to have hand eye coordination like u do when u play most instruments. But it does help to play something cuz u develop dat ear u need. i play the snare drum n piano, and beat makin is my expertise, i also like ot mix though 2. will some body please tell me where the lyrical talent is?

Well, I been writin'/ rappin' since 10 (7 yrs). Been makin beats since 14 (3 yrs). And Been doin' GFX for 2 yrs. All self-taught.

I think Im best at writin'/ rappin' though. I say my beats aren't the best, but they DAMN sho' aint the wackest.

GFX? Well, lets just say, I do what I do.

I'm self taught also in everything. I've only been doin graphics like a little over 2 years. And beats for like 4 or 5 years. If creativity is a talent, I got plenty of that.

i'd have to say scratchin,Beat juggling.. Turntablism is so much harder than an instrument because your tables don't wait for you but your instrument will. but in saying that if there were no instruments we'd have nothing to fuck with on the turns...................................

I'm naturally talented ( I think ) at writing, but I'm also talented at art and (some) music. Talent's something you're just naturally good at. Even if you don't really like it. I don't really like to write but every english teacher I've had has told me I'm extremely gifted at it.

The best talent is having the knowledge to find what it is you need to know. And the desire to want to learn..Not only to show your talents, but to expand and multiply them

Writing is where i destroy the competition, i can write a whole song in 10 minutes that blows someone who spent an hour or 2 out of the water.

that is good to know, just remember though, id rather hear a perfect album that someone took a lifetime to create than someone who puts 6 months into a project and it comes out half decent at best (not sayin you cant write, havent seen any of your shit)

Yo, on this I gotta dissagree with you Inna-That may be true for some people, but generally speaking, to learn an instrument, like piano or guitar(beyond novice level) is more difficult.

Personally my biggest talent right now, is probably guitar, followed closely by off the top lyricism(freestlye, or puttin it to paper quick-like CESARE BORGIA's talkin bout, above). I have a killa ear but have only begun to work in the production side this last year(06). I have taught myself everything I know about music and I learned guitar faster than most would on there own.

I have found myself defending production, and scrating as musical endevors, and have never shit on them-like: "they are some childish kids play"-But, I think if you have an ear for production, Its alot easier to learn how put beats together than to learn guitar, or piano, or violin-to an intermediate or above skill level.

This is only generally speaking-there will def. be people that will strugle in production(an therefore take longer to learn), while at the same time exceling with instruments-though generally its more often the opposite.
I'm not trying to belittle production-sure as shit it takes skill, an I ain't tryin' to dissrespect you Inna-but when you have gained mucho skill in guitar or violin(one of the hardest things to teach ones self IMHO) I dout you will still feel the same way.

Oh and this has me puzzelin a bit:

The only instrument off the top of my head that "hand eye coordination" is gunna be much help is a whole set of drums, I don't need hand-eye for guitar, or any other instrument that I play I do use it sometimes out of lazieness, but can play in the dark, or with my eyes closed-thats why you memorize where all the notes are on either your fingerbourd or keys, isn't it?
I may be having a brain crash moment as I write this, though, so please give me some examples where you need the hand-EYE.
