where does everybody get em from?

Ok, I must admit i am a bit confused now??? What EXACTLY are these "Soundfonts"? A partna of mine just said dey were MIDI files in a computer, but I still dont know dat I fully understand what these "soundfonts: are referring to? Are the simply sound files, dat are usable on an MPC, or in some sequencing hardware/software set-up???? Please let me know...

a soundfont is a sound (or more) that is mapped over the keyboard, by changing channel u can get diffrent sounds, even drumkits, everything that is a sound.
