A good pre amp and a nice mic. $200 you could get good quality right out of the box but at the same time some mics are shitty and some that cost less could turn out better. I cant remember the mic thats at the studio I used to record shit in but that was a good ass mic. I would try different mics out and see whats best.

you cant go wrong with buying a Behringer 4 channel mixing desk for 60 pounds and a Shure sm58 microphone for 70 pounds . it all depends how you use the equipment, but this gear can still give you the clarity your looking for, then at the mixing stage you should have a nice professional track to work with then you can give your vocals the desired effect. o yes and about 10 - 20 pounds for an xlr cable , that still gives you 30 left for beer.

    Heres my recommendation:

    Studio Projects B1 mic- $120

    Studio Projects VTB1 mic pre-amp- $120

Thats a nice setup right there.

Or if u want, u can skip the pre-amp, and get a mixer instead.

I bought a 50$ mic from best buy and The M-Audio interface which allows you to plug in a mic or a guitar and record (that cost me $70). I actually get ALOT better quality then I would have expected. So you could go that route, though I'm going to start looking into a mic preamp, maybe even a small mixing board, cuz I can't stand turning knobs using a mouse...
