The MV8800 is basically a computer itself.
You can even connect a monitor to it, if you don't want to use the MV8800's display.
It also comes with sounds and drums, so you'll be set.

Do you have any stores around to try the MV8800?
You could do that and see if u like it, and if u don't, get the laptop.

go with the mv i have it its amazing peice theres not much you cant do on it, takes a little time to get to learn clearly but then your rolling and making beats, mixing, mastering. though i usually track out into pro tools then master there

the mv is dope .... a computer with a controller can get swing and groove too , as well as alot of other functions other thant just studio work......however the sound and feel of the mv is a plus .....youre beats might not come out the same ....due to characteristics in the machine and the overall creativeness that comes from puchin buttons and whatnot.....if you just want to make beats that are slammin then you can learn the mv.... but if you want to load say pro tools , cubase , fl , reason , wavelab, tons of vst, rtas plugs , photoshop, the net , and a bunch of other shit then the pc is the way to go ..........in my opinion just save and get both ....and then when you got those perfect, learn more machines ......

I had the MV-8000, and I took it back after a week. Realistically, I thought it was bullshit. This was back about two years ago, Musicians Friend were running a special if you bought it you got the VGA board free. Biggest shit man, the VGA display looks like a REDICULOUSLY ghetto FL Studio, the piano roll (or the imitation) SUCKED BALLS. I mean gobbled them up. Buy a computer, some type of midi control pad, and you'll be good.

it really depends on which way u wanna go. to each is own. ive played around with the mv at Guitar Center hooked up to the moniter and big ass speakers and everything and it is crack but realistically u can do everything u need using software. couple years ago i purchased an mpc 2000xl simply because i saw a few producers using it and i thought i needed one. its nice to have if u prefer hardware but honestly i only made 1 beat with it. i always opened up fl studio before even looking at the mpc. it depends on how thick ur pockets are too. lol if ur financial status is below average u might wanna go with the laptop and a nice midi controller and all the free software u can find real talk
