Thread: Producers Without Hardware

    Default Producers Without Hardware

I made this thread to talk about the difference between producers with and without hardware inputs. All I have is a computer and a bunch of software. Tell me if you think there is a difference and if you have any techniques for people not using hardware.

well i try to draw influence from myself more than everything i listen to...but in the end i think it is better because it will be more unique and original. but look at producers like 9th wonder....how does he make the beatz he does with only fruityloops?? it just seems impossible to me

In most cases hardware gives a analouge sound, which in the case of hip-hop is "grimier". In my opinion computer production is too digital but that can be fixed with some secret techniques.

if i were you id go download fruityloops or something. i had a friend get it for me and itz easy to get the full version free. if you are a real producer you'll never use loops i think. if u do u chop it up to get a single instrument. As for the hardware tho...i dont see how it makes that much of a differnce. you can still use your mouse and the piano roll to draw out your melodies. indent lemme in on some of those techniques

I started out with Acid Hiphop 2.0...I'm using Acid 4.0 now and I think that's what I'll stick with

My biggest tip for using it is just to play around with different things...get into chopping up loops and stuff, layering drum sounds and everything else...also, try to switch up your tempos everyonce in a while, using different tempos for different beats

Beyond that I have a Roland JV1010, which is a sound synth that you can run through the computer, has at least a thousand sounds. So with that I can create melodies and my own loops using piano rolls (which is mostly what I do now) but you can also hook a keyboard up to it and play the keyboard and record the midi notes in acid. If I ever get some piano playing skills I'll probably go back to having a keyboard hooked up, but right now it just takes up space.

I also have an Maudio interface for a microphone so now I can record things...going to be buying an inexpensive electric guitar soon then I'll learn how to play it and have that hooked up to the maudio interface.

Software can do a lot, but there are subtle nuances with someone playing a guitar then with just laying some guitar notes down. Same with playing a keyboard as opposed to laying down the notes.

I have used an MPC and it has some benefits, one being the fact that you can actually play out the drum loop by tapping the pads, where as in acid you just paste in the sounds to create the drumloop. Acid however, makes it so much easier to do editing to those drumb sounds and patterns, and quicker, so I prefer acid.

I think having both to some degree is the ideal situation but not all of us can afford to have all that hardware and software...

    My advice: don't discredit anything...

I havn't even worked with an MPC
    I need 2 get a Akai MPD16 or dem new Akai MPD24.
    If u haven't seen an MPD24, heres a link http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPD24.php
That would work like a bitch wit NI Battery. 8-)

that shit with acid you talkin about takes way to much time...if i were you i would have just chopped up the samples then loaded them into something like fruityloops. ive never used an mpc either...n if i ever do decide to buy hardware it would be a keyboard. cause u can do melodies and drums with tha keyz if you wanted to. no need for an mpc and a keyboard....unless you maddd successful
