Producer ? Who are we? -Read- University

I got a tons of question I have but I'll start with this simple question.

What is the definition of a producer ? Is it the beat maker as a fruitty loop user who make beat, and other way?

Or is that Music Engineer ?

I have heard what that Music Engineer is who do music with computer and such.

So who is the one who make beat?

Do any one know how many class you have to take in University, is it the class you only choose to?

you don't required to take math,science,other if you just want to take music class to get a degree on it?

Do you need to go to college first?

How you become a real dj? Do you just need a turn table,and the skill, or do you need some kind of paperwork from a music school or something to get the job in the club,etc?

Is Fruitty loop going to do something for me to get ready,learning about generator,effect,mixing other.

Is there a other program better or at least like Fl Studio to get me ready?

Heres a definition and some info on what a Producer is.

It doesn't matter if someone uses Fruityloops or a bunch of hardware. Everyone's main concern is the sound when it comes down to it. A producer just doesn't make beats they go by other tasks, basically make sure the song comes out with a overall good sound. Being a music producer can kind of be like directing a movie in some ways like telling the artist what lyrics sound good, how catchy it is or how you want the song to be interpreted to others. Also you need to be somewhat a marketer for your material. A producers can be independent on their choices to work by their selves or have another producer do some of the work for them or even give opinions.

A beat maker is self explanatory make beats, maybe sell them nothing more.

A music engineer is simple its just like a engineer at a factory working on cutting metal but with audio, basically touching all the audio hardware or software and knowing how to operate it.


You don't need to go to a university for producing but its a wise decision to make that move and learn from someone who can explain everything and show you rather than taking a lot longer learning all of that yourself. Going to college for it is a wide variety of choices to choose from but some are different and tell you other skills in one class. Heres a example of Berklees courses.

Fruityloops is a good start especially if your looking to do a lot with creating music and saving money on equipment and expensive software. Its less than $100. Its so popular because its easy to use and easier to understand than a lot of other software out there.

There is a lot of programs that can be considered better because they have more features, but when it comes down to it, its all based on opinion its good to try demos and see which programs you like the best.

You don’t have to attend a university to take specialized classes in audio engineering, you can just sign up for those classes at local college if you find a school with a certificate program. If you choose to go for a degree then yes you will have to balance out your classes with standard classes english, math, science etc. to have a well rounded education – all schools pretty much make you do that in order to graduate.

You can always try to get an internship or apprentice at a local music studio or radio station and learn the ropes that way.

By going to a University to achieve a degree in Audio Engineering (or an equivalent), you'll have more options after college. Let's say your music thing doesn't work out. You can use that degree and get a job in television, film, or even video games (probably the direction I'm going eventually).

As far as an internship, note that some studios will not accept people who are not currently in college, completed with college, or consider themselves as an artist, producer, or songwriter.

Communications is your likely bet if you choose a local college and not some specialized music school you can choose music electives and the courses feature tv production, audio and sound engineering etc. so yeah you got options and something to fall back on.

If the radio or studios wanna bitch then you can always volunteer, point is get a foot in the door.
