or.....you can spend like maybe $100 on an M-Audio GrooveLab and use M-Powered..... like the one i posted...

M-Box does not work on every system....do some research....

i don't see why everybody is so mean in this thread.

    yes, it is.
Digidesign | News | Product News | Information on Pro Tools Compatibility with Windows Vista
Digidesign strives to support a wide variety of host computers and operating systems with our Pro Tools® product line, and we’re excited to support Windows Vista (32-bit) Ultimate and Business operating systems with Pro Tools LE® 7.4 and Pro Tools M-Powered™ 7.4 software. However, at this time Pro Tools HD® 7.4 software is not compatible with Windows Vista. Customers using Pro Tools HD 7.4 wishing to upgrade to Windows Vista should wait until support is officially announced.

Please note that at this time, Avid video peripherals such as Mojo SDI® are not supported with Pro Tools LE 7.4 on Windows Vista. Support for Avid video peripherals with Vista is expected in a future Pro Tools compatibility update.
and no, it may not be compatible.

but i can tell you from experience that i have used protools on an emachine and the emachine is not on the compatibility list (but i did have to disable EVERYTHING so that it wouldn't lag on us [it wasn't connected to the net]).

personally, my next pc will use the latest pc parts, the parts listed that are compatible for protools are now obsolete by today's standards... and i'd rather get the latest hardware rather than get 2-3 year old hardware for cheap.

but be warned, if your system is not on their compatibility list, then digidesign will not give you tech support if something goes wrong.

it also has to do with motherboard chipset....i bought mbox 2, about a month ago....after 2 weeks of troubleshooting myself i called digidesign......

we tried everything, and i mean everything to get my setup up and running....then i did a system analysis and found that i have the 915 G chipset.....

If you are thinking of getting an MBox, make sure you do some research on your own system....the 915G chipset is not compatible with ANY USB based digidesign hardware.....that is when you need to check out M-Audio hardware, if you are still trying to use Pro Tools, or you need to go firewire....

i don't want m-audio, i want the firewire mbox. yea, i could save $200-$300 for usb but firewire is a better.

the chipsets is where digidesign is behind the times. so far, only the p35 chipset is compatible (the other chipsets are older than the p35).

    Newegg.com - ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

this chipset was released in 2007 and intel has moved on to the x48 chipset. newegg doesn't even carry the mb that has the compatible chipset anymore, it is already obsolete.

i would rather future proof my next pc to last me at least 5 years and get the x48 chipset.

    Newegg.com - ASUS P5E3 PREMIUM/WIFI-AP @n LGA 775 DDR3 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

i want be upgradin' until 2009. hoperfully by 2010 or 2011, digidesign will have approved my chipset for compatibility.
