Default Prince Drums - 29-07-2008, 07:50 PM
Does anyone know what sound module Prince used for his famous synth drums, particularly the snares on "When Doves Cry"? The same retro snares can be heard on Justin Timberlake's "Until the End of Time feat. Beyonce" as well as a new single featuring the Dream (I've only heard it once, and I dont know the name). Prince's synth drums are REALLY distinct, especially the snares!

it's the tr-808. those are the synth drums that you hear all over 80's, 90's and 2000's hip hop, rap, r&b and electronica cd's. remember that song by blaque (tlc's group) called 808.

Vintage Synth Explorer - Roland TR-808

here are some vst's that emulate the 808.
AudioRealism Drum Machine (tr-808 and tr-909)
D16 Drumazon (tr-909)
D16 Nepheton (tr-808)

It is the Linndrum not tr808.Go 2 Audio Pirate to find the linndrum

^oOo, the linndrum, the original mpc (linn 9000 & mpc-60). i always that that prince played a drum set, not a linndrum.

yea, i downloaded some kit with Maaaaad vintage drum samples-- including the linndrum... but i still cant find that snare... maybe theres some type of effect on it... a phaser or something???

I think there are fx on the snare like a quick slapback delay and some flange or phaser it also sounds like the drum is tuned down just a bit.
