Default If your a producer, read this and answer my question.

Alright, so like, theres this dude in my city thats real famous round here, his songs are played on the radio often, and like everybody knows who he is. If you go to a party round here there's always like a 95% chance you'll hear his song there. Yeah, but anyways, Im thinking about giving him like two of my best beats, for free. Is that a smart move? Because if he raps on them and alotta ppl hear that they'll wonder where he got the beat from. So that means exposure and promotion for me. Yup but yeah is that a smart thing to do or not? You tell me...

If you ready then go right ahead. Its good that you thought about it instead. You could slip into the game n start selling like that because there's always gonna be somebody like yo who made that beat or who makes your beats. You gotta be prepared for others as well, and have a good amount of beats just incase. Its not good to wait to long and pass up the opportunity neither. I always have my ehh ok beats for when I don't have alot of good beats im sure ppl would want as backup so they don't hit me up for a few and I don't have none.

I say you should jump on your opportunities tho ur 15 so im guessing your not pressed for time with a job or focusing on college. Its probably alot easier for you now than it will be in the future. I made that move and passed one of my beat cd's out somebody heard it, a few months later I was working in a studio at age 17

honestly i think thats the best self promotion move one can do for self as an up and coming producer. ive been thinkin bout makin that move myself. but dont just GIVE him your beats u gotta make sure theres paper work for your music that names are signed on the dotted line. u HAVE TO MAKE SURE that if an artists uses ur music u decide not to sell then u at least make for damn sure ur given the production credit. for example if he puts ur beat on an album or mixtape its printed on there who produced the beat so its known

yea, i do that now...although the dude isnt REAL famous round here, he does get SOME radio play here and there....but he does do a lot of shows and people always wanna know where he gets his beats....its usually either me, or this guy from Germany....

so yea, great self exposure, but make sure you get the credit.....or a shout out in the song or something....

The way I see it, I would put togethther a compulation of m.c's that i like that need exposure as much as i do, and I would put out my own beats and sell my own compulation promoting my beats letting the artist get the free expo. that way you get paid and recognition for your productions. Just ask your pal to lay the tracks for you, and you will promote it. having him my help you sell it.
Hope this help you further your ideas. do your thang, and remember to have fun wit it.

Yes it is a very good easy, cheap self promoting technique. One thing to keep in mind though if you don't actually own this instrumental legally then you are not entitled to any of the money made while using this track. If you think dude is cool enough he could actually not mention you to anyone. I would suggest some type of legal document signed by him that entitles you to a percentage of cash up front. if he is a professional he probably signs these all the time no big deal right.

do it up dunny thats how i came up im a official underground producer now all because i tossed a couple free beats to doap nixon from army of the pharaohs now big named people buy beats off me you have to be willing to get your shit out there for free in the beginning its all part of the growing process as you get known you start to charge for your work and then the more recognition you get will help you to price your beats accordingly i like to set price ranges i recommend all producers do this. think of the level the people are on that your doing business with if theyre just independent low budget artists your not gonna charge them a price that a well known heavy weight artist can afford so just keep all the factors in mind itll make you better at what you do.

do it... big exposure is good. But for me i tend only to work wid artists i enjoy listening to, unless of course im selling the beat. so if you like his work then by all means send it, but if u jus want exposure... i guess its up 2 u. I guess its more songs on the resume
