Default How to build a drum beat on fruity loops - 22-08-2005, 02:19 PM

im going to do some step by step instructions on how to make a drum beat on fruity loops....im going to build one...post print screens and upload the samples that i used to make the drum beat

it will be a basic drum beat with nothing really special added on top of it...

this one lesson i will teach u to reverb bass boost with the fruity mixer and im going to make it so if u do everything i do the right way ur drum beat should come out the same way i did mines...alright grasshoppers???

here is everything u will need...All of the samples i used The 42 Second Mp3 To hear what it should sound like and the Fruity loops file to see what it looks like

rapidshare.de/files/4247552/Dubzhelpsamples.zip.html

*u will need to make images bigger for a good look!*

Step 1:

this is the setup i use...i can from a 1 bar setup to a complete mesure setup. The grey boxes are generally kicks and the pink ones mainly are snare. Where you see the number sixteen on your screen it shoud say ---....you can take your mouse and drag it all the way up to 16. This is what changes your sequencer from 1 bar set up to a full mesure.

the swing meter kinda changes the sound of ur samples swings it one way or the other i tend to leave it the way it is but sometimes u can change it and it actually sounds alright depends on what your trying to achive..

You use the graph looking icon as a filter to kinda clean up ur sounds u can pan and a lot of other shit ur not ready to learn about lol

the piano looking icon is a pitch shifter u can play stuff such as a piano but its not really changing key more like pitch..use the piano roll to change ur keys...u can change ur pitch there or by right clicking the sample and fucking with the pitch nob..You can play in a melody with the pitch shifter but it doesn't sound as complete as it does if u do it in the piano roll...depends once agin on the sound you are looking to achive.

Step Two picking your Samples.:

You should have bunches before you even begin to make a beat because it is important to the art of production. U need all sorts of drumz snaps claps snares clicks all sorts of shit to build off of and hte less u have the more complicated it is to make a beat because u only got what u got cant exsplore ur vision.

Im just testing out some shit to see what it will sound like at this point but u right click one of ur sampler boxes and then load the sample u want fruity loops will automatically play what it sounds like.

repeat this for ur hand claps snares hi hatz and all samples u want in the songs..U will not find all of them at the same time but this is what u do when lookin for the samples to add in ur sampler...Once u found a kick and a clap of some sort start to make a drum beat..without a hi hat at this point jus come up with some basic drum sounds to build off of..

I have arranged a slight drum pattern. u can copy it onto yours just copy the exact same one..now we are going to look for a hi hat

Now I have added a hi hat u jus copy that onto yours the same way and u will achive the same sound. now with the hi hat on it has built into a small drum beat

Now I have added a basic baseline...easy to duplicate

click on the bass Piano Icon I showed u in step on and copy the notes exactly (u may need to pull up the fruity FLP file provided to get an exact look at it but please try to duplicate it as to teach yourself)

now once u have tha basic baseline u can add on shakers sticks bells all sorts of shit to build a full out drum beat.

Now i have just added some basic vocal samples i had on here jus to give it a full sound...and i then went to

VIew>Playlist and just streched out pattern 1 16 bars.. then u have it as a beat

once u make a whole bunch of samples and patterns u use ur playlist to put em together

Part Two of this will be the mixer pitch and shit...

Now that u have all of that done on the bass drum Bd1 or whatever it is called click on it go to the effect box and click it pick 1 for ur mixer channel then go to bass boost..now u have assigned a bass boost to a channel now it will work on all ur samplers if u so choose but in this case go to only ur bass drum sample it should look like this

that is what it looks like when u are assigning something to the mixer

here is where u take a good look at my fruity file go through all of the mixing board and see the ones i used and what they did...

the fruityoveride brings a more real studio sound to it the pre amps and the echos really make ur beats sound more realistic and less synthy and computerized

a reverb can make ur snares and claps sound very good if used correctly a reverb is a deep echo by the way

i used a chours mix on the biggie sample any questions post em here and post up what u did also
