How Do I Make A Remix?

Whats up people,

i've just started out in producing, and was wondering how do i make a remix of a song? do i make an instrumental and chop all the bits from the original song and mix them? or is there another way..? i'm thinking about doing a hip hop remix of a pop song, or a garage remix of a hip hop track. i don't just want to sample to make an instrumental, i want to re-work the whole song

sorry to sound so vague, i could just desperately do with some help.
i'm using Fruity Loops and Adobe Audition.

First off you gotta get familiar sounds in the song and check the bpm of the song before anything....and then just go from there on what u wanna change

r remixes the same nowadays??? i think producers r gettin lazy whens the last time u actually heard a "remix" with a different beat along with new featured artists?!?!? maybe im trippin but nowadays a "remix" just consists of different artists spittin over da same track
