Take it as you will. I know two producers in my town that have both graduated from Full Sail, and still haven't had a job from them. One of the guys has produced, mixed, mastered, or recorded acts like Juvenile, UTP, TrillVille, Pastor Troy, and etc. Another guy i knew at my college went to Full Sail for Game Programming....and yeah.

I was gonna go to the one in Orlando. It was going to cost me $42,000 a year. I said FUCK THAT.

it's not worth it in my opinion....but to each his own.

To be honest, they don't have as much clout in the industries they "teach" as they'd like for you to believe. You'd be better off at a real, 4-year college with a major in Audio Engineering or an equivalent, in your state for 10-20k a year instead.

My business partner graduated from full sail in November. They have great facilities, and he learned alot, but I dont think it was worth the money (in my opinion). All of the classrooms and labs are top notch in terms of technology and what not, and you can expect an education that rivals that of any school in the field. However, DO NOT expect a sweet gig or production credits to land in your lap just off the strength of you graduating from Full Sail. It is probably way more important to have talent, and put in work-- after all, you can only teach someone but so much, no matter how good the school is. As for all of the graduate success stories, the school attracts some of the best and brightest in the industry, so of course there will be success stories!! For the most part thoughthe school is full of rich kids whose parents have money to blow. If you DONT have money to blow, I just dont think the 40K+ is worth it.

As a side note, the curriculum is also very rigorous IMO. They move quickly and test often. Be prepared to have a CRAZY schedule!!

yea, my friend graduated from that school. the school is "on point" but graduatin' doesn't guarantee you a job. he knows his stuff and i ask him alot of questions on production... but then i know alot of buildin' pc's, findin' all the free music production software so it balances out...

It's not worth it. What you need is to intern for as many people as you can in the music biz, and learn hands-on.

I considered Full Sail but after various people telling me to go the intern route, it convinced me. Currently I'm trying to get production equipment and eventually intern somewhere.

How come no one has heard of SAE? There's one in Atlanta, LA, New York, Miami, and Nashville. I was going to goto the one in Nashville at 17, but I wasn't old enough to get an apartment, and they told me your co-signer had to be a resident on Tennessee for at least a year. So then when I considered going back after that, life happened.

Look into the one in Nashville. Back then, the one in ATL hasn't been built yet, but I know the one in Nashville accepts federal funding. It's an amazing school, and if I remember correctly it was a bit less than $17,000 for the whole thing, and that was a 9 month course full time or 18 months part time. They GIVE you a brand new Mac laptop, Reason, Pro Tools, etc. I did the open house back on August 5th in '06, and it was truly amazing.

EDIT : Forgot the link...lol

http://www.sae.edu

SAE Laptop Program

All students enrolling in SAE Atlanta's Audio Technology Program receive an Apple laptop computer bundled with hardware and software necessary for their studies at SAE. The current configuration is as follows (subject to change without notice):
Hardware:

* Apple 13" MacBook
* 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
* 1GB Ram
* 80GB Hard Disk
* Combo Drive
* Airport Extreme Card built-in
* Bluetooth Module built-in
* Apple Care Protection Plan
* Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini with Production Tool Kit
* Ultrasone HFI550 headphones

Software:

* Digidesign Pro Tools LE
* Apple Logic Studio Academic
* Apple iLife 06 with GarageBand 3
* Bias Peak LE 5
* Ableton Live Lite 4*
* Propellerhead Software Reason Adapted 3 *
* FXpansion BFD Lite *
* IK Multimedia SampleTank 2 SE *
* IK Multimedia AmpliTube LE *
* IK Multimedia T-RackS EQ *
* Celemony Melodyne uno essential *

* Software part of the Pro Tools LE Bundle

The cost of this package is included in the total tuition and is mandatory for the Audio Technology Program curriculum at SAE Atlanta. The included Apple Care Protection Plan is provided so that students have three-year access to Apple Tech Support and can resolve any computer-related issues through Apple.

I think all of the schools are the same, but don't quote me on it.

well im going to VFS (Vancouver Film School), i too wanted to get into music and then saw that there wasnt that much money to be made in the music industry. so i went into post production
it cost $30 000 and $42 000 for international students. its a 4 year program put into 1 year so pretty much its long hours and no breaks. they also have a job placement thing and some students even get hired while going to school.

also here in canada the gaming industry is booming real fast so there are tons of work for sound designers

i went to the remix seminar a while back and it was at the full sail in hollywood ..... it was a real crazy experience beacuse the classrooms are kinda situated like they would be in a studio.....long halls , and doors with do not disturb signs.......they got the newest technology and studios dedicated to one thing like ableton for instance and another for reason and another one for logic and so on and so on ........fully stocked air conditioned studios with a real good vibe .....so youre able to master the program instead of tryin to learn 5 in one room..... the one in hollywood keeps you close to the action of the clubs and overall gives you a trippy feeling like your walking old streets ....thats all ........

i would defitnetly take the community college route out because first off the money is way way less.......if you pay attention and learn all the new shit right away then you are at no disadvantage.......they make money because of the booming sale of home recording equipement.....so cats that like to make beats think this is for them .....but anything over 20 g's better be the real shit homie.......
