Look into Logic and Bias Peak.

Peak is a damn good editor but Wave Editor is just as good but way less processor - intensive. As for multitrack, if you don't want to get into Pro Tools, look at Logic 8 or Digital Performer 5.

Can't go wrong with Logic.
Get it, learn it and you'll be set.

Yeah same here I am working with GarageBand. there is not a lot of sound variety, but if you work with it for a while you'll get used to it. If you have the money then I suggest FL Studio XXL Edition.

Another mac user! I have a hard time finding other mac people! My set up is as follows......m-audio axiom 49, mbox2, reason 4.0, tons of refills and drum kits, pro tools and plug ins sampletank 2 and a few others. I'm on a imac g5 i got two years ago and still goin strong. I started out on garageband and a casio keyboard and worked my way up.

I use Reason 4 heavily... my hardware is collecting dust now. The newest version of Logic Pro is hard to get since it's so BIG.. takes forever to upload. My mac is packed away so I'm stuck on a PC laptop for now. Good thing the Reason dvd is hybrid.
