Default Focus The Producer - Message to music producers everywhere

As a producer you need to set your own standards. Don't let anybody tell you how to make your beats, how much to charge for them or who you should work with. All in all you will never have a career in music if you don't set your own standards. Being the producer you want to be is what actually makes the money for you. Trust me I should know, I have been making a living off music for over 10 years now.

I can say this... one thing before I end this. I am where I am and who I am because I decided that nobody else would ever, or could ever dictate what I succeed in with "rules to the game" etc. So if you want to charge $1,000 for your beats do that, if you want to charge $1 for your beats then do that, if you want to lease beats or sell them exclusive do that, but do it with confidence.

If you are not confident in what you do that is the only way you are guaranteed failure. You won't plan the correct way if you are not confident, you will not try hard enough if you are not confident, and most of all you will not do your best if you are not confident. If you plan on making a living from creating beats then you need to decide who you are and stick with it.

I see far too many producers who do not have a clue what they want to do. Don't be the type to sit around and think how others feel about what you do. Just create your music and put it up there for the world to see. If you end up succeeding it is because you know your target market, target income, and your target price range. You will succeed and if you don't believe in yourself I believe in you.

This is just a PSA or whatever you want to call if from the producers at Forbes MUsic Entertainment.

I Have question for you Focus(and anyone else who would like to contribute). I'm not new to producing, I've been making music for over 10 years, but I've just recently decided to create a career in music and entertainment. My question is about, 'Mixing'. I'm just wondering how do you feel about offers from potential M.E.(s) to mix a track or two for free in order to,"Build Their Portfolio"?
You are an instrument of your own perception, no matter how expanded or diminished
