vBSEO 3.0 RC4 has been undergoing testing by our pre-release team for a few days. While they have detected some bugs, our development team has worked tirelessly to resolve known issues.
We've been receiving many requests for access to RC4. As per your requests, RC4 is now available. Please keep in mind that RC4 is a release candidate only and may still contain unresolved bugs. In this case, you may prefer to wait for the official vBSEO 3.0 GOLD release.
vBSEO is merging the blogosphere with the forum sphere with our new linkback features, including pingbacks, trackbacks, and the vBSEO-only refbacks.
Since it can be a little difficult to understand how these powerful features work, we have included a tutorial to help bring you all up to speed:
We've undergone several iterations of vBSEO 3.0 to get our LinkBack features close to perfect. Check out the tutorial - we expect that you will be very impressed by these new features!
You've Heard of Pingbacks & Trackbacks from Blogging - What are RefBacks?
On the topic of RefBacks, we believe this new feature will not only provide SEO advantages, but will also be a fun feature for forum admins and members alike. RefBacks, in the traditional sense, is nothing new. You probably describe them as the referring URLs from which your inbound traffic arrives. vBSEO RefBacks are a far more mature and evolved type of inbound URL referencing structure.
A Trackback is simply an acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is sent via a network signal (ping) from Site A (originator) to Site B (receptor). The receptor often publishes a link back to the originator indicating its worthiness.
A Pingback is also a signal (ping) sent from Site A to Site B. However, it's also a link. When Site B receives the notification signal, it automatically goes back to Site A checking for the existance of a live incoming link, if it exists, the Pingback is recorded successfully. This makes Pingbacks less prone to SPAM than Trackbacks.
A Refback is also a link. However in this case, Site A (link originator) does not need to "tell" anything to Site B (receptor). Instead, the receptor Site "discovers" this link immediately after the first web visitor gets to the site by clicking on the link. This is done by analyzing information carried by this web visitor's browser referer header.
Referring URLs have been around for ages (at least in the relative timeline of the Web). RefBacks is the application of this technology as a automated relevant link builder. In fact, we received thousands of RefBacks a day when first implemented. Now we've fine tuned them to block major search engines from being included. Instead they are focused on building relevant links directly from content pages linked to your forum.
Of course, RC4 includes everything else added since the earliest release candidates of 2.4.1. There is far too much to mention here. However, one of the most significant new features is our social bookmarking integration including Digg, Technorati, del.ici.ous, and FURL.
The official GOLD announcement is being created and includes exhaustive information on all new features, updates, and bug fixes for vBSEO 3.0 GOLD.
