XM and Sirius said they would each own half of the combined company, which would offer listeners a much wider variety of programming, including sports, news and high-profile entertainers such as shock jock Howard Stern.

The two companies, which have a combined 14 million subscribers, said they had not yet determined a new name for the combined company or where its headquarters would be located.

"This combination is the next logical step in the evolution of audio entertainment," Karmazin said in a statement.

Sirius and XM said as a result of the merger it hoped to offer listeners an "a la carte" option, allowing them to pick and choose the channels they wanted, such as Sirius' "Martha Stewart Living Radio" or XM's "Theme Time Radio Hour" with music legend Bob Dylan.

"The combined company will be better positioned to compete effectively with the continually expanding array of entertainment alternatives that consumers have embraced since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) first granted our satellite radio licenses a decade ago," Parsons and Panero said in a joint statement.

its on now. I never got satalite radio because i couldnt choose cause i didnt want to miss out on something. But now i dont have to. when they make the first portable player im buyin that

well if ur talkin to me bout tha competition thing then im sayin that they still have competitions which is regular radio.and hd radio.cuz hd radio is slowly takin over too.bmw cars r gona have those stock.

That is sick. I guess they had to since HD Radio is comin up on the scene. I wuz debatin on satellite too for awhile cuz of the split.

This is great news, for those that understand the hustle, buy as many stocks in xm or sirius as you can, shit you buy 10 stocks for 100 bucks, those shits will jump to 1000 in a matter of days, then buy more, and sell when it starts going back down, you will easily come out of that with a pocket full of green. Myself, I will now buy one of those portable Sirius players, cause with the merger, it will be better than any mp3 player or cd player, shits just got serious.

Only fools listen to radio, sattilite or regular, they only play the "popular" bullshit ass music they get paid to play-waste of time listenin' to that noise, some be callin' music.
