Default Halo Creators - Bungie Leaving Microsoft - 12-12-2007, 05:44 PM

Is 'Halo'-Creator Bungie Leaving Microsoft?

Bungie Leaving Microsoft
Rumors have been flying that the developers at Bungie Studios are tired of making Halo games and are leaving Microsoft behind. According to the rumors, shareholders have bought the Bungie name from papa Gates for an undisclosed, but significant sum of money. The rumored deal also has Microsoft retaining the rights to the Halo series and first shot at publishing titles from the developers.

There has been no official confirmation from either Microsoft or Bungie as of yet, but we've gotta say we'd find it more likely that all of the developers would up and leave to form their own company rather than pay an absurd sum of money to Microsoft for the name Bungie. In the meantime, we'll just have to wait and see if these rumors pan out.

From Joystiq

What you guys think? Will Bungie really leave microsoft now that the Halo Trilogy is over and move on?

Not sure everyone has heard of the other halo game coming out titled "Halo Wars" I believe its kinda like the "Starcraft" PC game where you just tell everybody what to do and you just sit back and watch the war. As showbiznine said "Halo Spin-offs"

I've heard rumors of this for a while now, so it wouldn't surprise me if this happened. Microsoft doesn't allow Bungie to be creative and Bungie is established enough to go on their own.

I thought they already split up.
I guess Bungie can make Halo alone, but they will need new distribution.

Actually, they can't. The Halo brand is owned by Microsoft is I remember correctly, though I may be wrong.

I'm personally hoping that Bungie will jump ship to Sony. :)

If you think of it more like Command and Conquer, it seems better. Speaking of which, we should all get a multiplayer game going, something simple and PC based. back in the day, Gunbound was the shit. Pure PC crack.

yah i was hoping they came to Sony as well..and yes microsoft owns halo and bungie..so if anythign they could all leave and form a new company..they are big enough that as soon as they formed the new company they would definitely carry over the bungie name and people would give them the same respect..they wouldnt b starting from the ground up at least..and they could always make a similar game to halo..just different costumes a little different story line and same game play..so thats always an easy thing..yah i hate when good games stick with 1 console..like call of duty is the shit right now and its for every console..i like when companies do that..it gets them more money too so i dont see why they wouldnt do that..
