Well, first thing you need to do, business wise, is make sure that if you're registered with a performance rights organization such as BMI or ASCAP, that they know about the change if you decide to make the name change official. This is something that can be done, as Puff Daddy changed to P. Diddy and look at him now. Hip-hop is all about change, whether the world likes to admit it or not. Busta Rhymes went from crazy and almost psychedelic to blinged-out, and it worked. Also, don't forget about businesses. Cingular became AT&T, Bell Atlantic became Verizon, and so fourth...

Think of it as a new beginning, a chance to fully recognize your creative talents. I've done the name change, too. Before I was "Malpraktiss", I was "The Omar". I got the name The Omar from a video game called Deus Ex : Invisible War. Once I got out of the whole mind state that was surrounding The Omar. NOw, while not established online as The Omar as much as I am Malpraktiss, in the real world, everyone knew me by that. Finally, I decided about 2 and a half years ago that I wanted to make a change. I said I wanted to stop DJing as much and focus more on beats (something I had just really began to do) and the recording. I wanted to be the artist, the producer, the label owner, everything...

...and here I am today. I am Malpraktiss, owner of Ill Water Productions, an amazing hip-hop producer, a sufficient but constantly improving rapper, a manager, a promoter, a DJ...an entrepreneur.

Do the name change. I'm almost positive there's someone with "Young'n" already, anyway. My best advice is, find a name that best suits your lifestyle and personality. A lot of people have names that just sound cool, but hold little to no actual meaning. I picked a name that represented something near and dear to me, as I did with the label name. Go for it, but once you do it, make it official. Making a song about it is an excellent idea, but make sure your song is stating your reasons why. If you're a painter, paint your change, let your audience know why. If you're an architect, construct something that will signify your change and better help people to understand why you did what you did. You're a rapper, make a song. Make it meaningful, make it detailed, but most importantly, make it you.

I spit to son and I started out as My nickname in the Hood Bigg Mike...But there's so many people with that name (including a DJ who is also from CT like me) i decided to change up..I mean I had Phat-Nasty, Tha Sadistic MC(SMC), Erratic Assassin, Doo Doo, MIKE-RO-Fone(that one was like for five minutes LOL)..But the one day one of my bars(Stay high off that Chronic's effect//Big fan of revolvers and Tecks//) inspired me to change my name to Chronic E Fec aka C.E.F. After a while i didn't wanna sound like a MC pothead so i keep the acronym but changed the meaning to Cocky Effortless Flow aka Young Cocky...all in all as long as the bars are still there and you remain hot people who really listen to you will follow you what ever name you Pick ya dig.....

    P.S.
what homeboy said about having an alias works to C.E.F is the name but i go by Cocky,Young Cocky,Cocky Luciano, Mr2oh3rd, S-city's Bully ect. an Alias May also help
