Default Pro Tools SE Mix/Master Help

Hey everyone. As the title states I am having some issues with Pro Tools SE. Ive been using it for a few months and I understand the basics but whenever I use vocal effects it makes my track sound very "unprofessional" like its obvious that Im using effects. If anyone out there has pro tools se and can give me some pointers that would be great! thanks.

You already stated the problem, you aren't supposed to be able to tell you're using the effects . Subtlety is the best and it needs to be done accurately so that it represents a real space. Obviously there are exceptions depending on genre and such but the general rule is that you don't want it to sound fake.

It's kind of hard to give specific tips if I don't know what your mixing (beats, vocals, both), the genres being mixed, and the quality of the recordings in the first place. The best general tip though will be to practice and practice more. Do covers of songs and try to get your shit to sound like your target perfectly. This will teach you how to attain what sound for what instrument in your own music.
