    Fanpages as in Facebook pages?

Yeah, I believe they do if you use it "correctly". I wrote an article on using Facebook pages, check it: Make The Most Of Facebook Page As An Artist / DJ / Producer

I'm currently working on a new one that explains how to use the new Timeline pages that I'll have published soon!

I think Fan Pages are beneficial. I suppose that's even why longtime professional musicians have them.

It amazes how many "famous" artists and musicians don't use their facebook fan pages to market their music more effectively

Social media is still in its infant years in comparison to "face to face" interactions. Most people who're considered famous, or mainstream, prefer to handle business in person through shows and meetings. Either that, or they delegate marketing and promo to someone who doesn't understand the power of social media. I like to use both social media and face to face in moderation. BTW, it looks like Battle4Exposure has gained the attention of Guitar Center. I've already established the online affiliations and have made a few local connections. Now, we're waiting for the dollars to make cents. I should hear something by the around the end of quarter, hopefully.

I'll get you more info when I have it.

In the meanwhile, I'm working on another competition and looking for ideas to make things more competitive. It seems like producers are more competitive than artists are. Either way, we need to incorporate both into the competition. Also, I've noticed the winners of every competition have promoted their music online. This is nothing new to the two us, however, there are those who think they should win just because they enter; as if music promoted itself because of the sound or something. People need to be called to action. They need to let listeners know t a competition they're trying to win.

I've asked Guitar Center to contribute gear prizes. I don't think it's likely but they don't know I think that, lol. GigeHive is still giving the battle winners free custom starter websites and hosting. The only disclosure is the owners must buy their own domain, which is really affordable through go daddy. I'm willing to sponsor a promo blast to a few thousand people. Not to mention, it will be promoted fairly heavily. I'm sure the winners can use this experience as a tool to gain more fans and business connections. My only question is...

How can we get more members to participate?

they definitely work! you just have to use them correctly just like what crazy pellaz said.. you just gotta create an incentive for someone to like your page.. i am still trying to figure out whats the best way to get traffic to the page.. but you just gotta be persistent.. and then patient.. keep at it..

@producerjc You don't need to tell me it's in it's infant years... it's what pays my bills selling my social media marketing services to local businesses haha.

I don't think it's that producers are more competitive than artists, it's they they are being forced to be more competitive because being a producer is a lot easier to get into than being an artist, and it's easier to make money being a producer and their is a lot more of them about because of that.

Note that I'm not using producer in the true sense of the meaning, I'm just using it as what the Internet calls a producer.

There have been a few more artists show up here recently so it might be worth giving the artist content another shot. This is for another topic tho, so if you want to start a new thread or email me me can bounce ideas off each other.

@legendarybeatz It's not as easy now to offer incentives to get people to Like your page since you can't have the welcome tab anymore. But to be honest that's where I think most people get social media wrong, you shouldn't be trying to drive traffic to your facebook page, twitter profile etc. they should be used as outlets for you to communicate with your existing audience when they aren't on your own website, so instead of driving traffic to them you are driving traffic from them back to your own website, and the way your fanbase will grow through them is when your existing audience interacts with your posts so it shows up on their ticker for their friends to see.... I could go on forever about this lol.....

I'm planning on making a new page for promoting my music, so I can split "music composition for video games" and "music producer" from each other.
My short remake of "Liberian Girl". Song originally made by Michael Jackson for the Bad album.

It's 50-50, imo. I've talked to A&R's who say that likes, followers, fans, etc are crucial, because it shows you are serious, and popular. On the other hand, I've met others who say to forget that - if your music isn't good, it doesn't matter if you have 10,000 FB likes. They won't sign mere popularity, especially with people "buying" thousands of fans or likes, these days.

IMO, I think FB and all those numbers are more important for artists than for producers. If an artist wanted to collab with one of my tracks, I'd assume they'd just email me or something, rather than just hit "like" and wait for me to check them out. And what do I get from other producers following or fanning me? I don't even know. Again, I think it's more for image than actually doing business through it, so it's more useful to the artist.

Yes they do but they can cost a lot of money to get a lot of fan. I'm talking like 500k legitimate fans. By then you should be recouping those costs for sure without a label. Other fan pages take off virally. This does not happen for most people.
