take note. companies aren't looking for the same ol' same ol'. you got to come with something different. don't just base success on the "american model". there is plenty of dough worldwide. reach out to international markets. you can get quite a following if you just apply yourself. check out the group "sa-ra" a good and different sound to say the least. these cats are makin' good dough. as a producer or dj you can do the same thing. make your beats different, scratch in a not so ordinary way. hook yourself up!

agreed.. open your mind up, bridge your knowledge base gaps and form new concepts based on what you already know, and what you think you can learn.
Set goals based on NOT what you already know, but what you can reasonably teach yourself, this way your hobby/talent/passion will never become stagnant.

thats why i try to be different and not sound like everybody else nodot i digg his sound also cause its very different, the millions of producers doing the same crunk and r&b pop stuff people jock a style like crunk music producers all of it sounds the same to me everybody wants to be nitti and shawty redd or timbo or polo da don the problem is why would a major artist come to u when they have them it more money but they know what here getting
the producer makes the song these days not the artist

I agree to an extent, but at the same time, being "different" can 'cause you to go unnoticed. You can still be the "same" (commercially viable) but maintain your originality. I assume everyone wants more than to make beats in the bedroom, and for that to happen, 9 times out of 10, you have to also give in a bit as far as your sound goes. If you're not worried about commercial appeal at all, but would still like to be creative, you can go the "underground" route, but will have to work twice as hard because, in most cases, you're promoting/marketing to a niche market.

This is how i feel about the orginality game. I think you have to come in the game sounding like YOUR THE NEXT BIG THING....like when 50 came in the game how his sound was he changed the game as far as mixtapes and mixtape freestyles goes.
You have to come in the game with something to offer it. If you are just another rapper that can battle rap or just another producer that can make hot beats thats cool but what do you have to offer the game. Producers like that come a dime a dozen
if you think of the new producers and new artist that have come in the game and have been sucessful it is either because they are a tripple threat or they adding something to the game that everyone wants to copy
like that whole T-oain Auto-tone effect or how The Runners Came with that EVERYDAY IM HUSTLIN EVERDAY IM HUSTLIN chopped up in the beat then next thing you new mad beats came out like that. So my advice i would say is work on perfecting your sound.
You owe that too yourself your sound is what will define you your sound is what will separate you from the rest. Each notable hip-hop artist has their own style and sound that they identify with but the emcees that have no tru sound or no true swag about themselves never survive
