TAKEN FROM MY BLOG ... I INTERNED OVER @ ISLAND DEF JAM AGAIN THIS SUMMER ... JUST DESCRIBES A TYPICAL DAY ...

For the past two summers I’ve been doing an internship @ the almighty Island Def Jam Music Group. Everytime i tell people that I commute from CT to NY they look @ me like a told them I going to vote for McCain in the upcoming election … But in my mind the trip is nothing, and it’s well worth the experience/connections/fun i’ve been able to partake in during my internships … here is a old timeline i created about one of my daily ventures to IDJMG taken from an older blog of mine …

9:00am - Wake up … Shower … Get Dressed … Check E-mails

10:00am - Continuously calling professor @ Hofstra to straighten out internship acknowledgement. Hofstra fucking up my future …

11:00am – Make breakfast/lunch … still trying to get in touch with professor … I swear dude was call blocking me

12:00am – Can’t reach professor via phone so I leave the following email … “I’ve tried to contact you several times yesterday and today to no avail …. It is imperative that Ms. Bianchi receive that letter or else they will not allow me to continue. I hate to pester you, but this internship is my life and hopefully the outlet I will need to jump-start my career. I again copied my previous e-mail to you in case it did not successfully reach you …” … you have to sound decent when dealing with certain people

12:45am – Leave the house in 98 degree weather to catch the train to New York. Snatch a bottle of water on the way out

1:03pm – Catch my train… Sit and read The Lives of John Lennon biography … listen to Nas and Green Lantern – The N*gger Tape … Nas has opened my eyes to the truth once again

2:03pm – Arrive @ Grand Central … Catch the shuttle subway because it way to hot to walk around the city … the subway smells like piss… some guy is preaching about heaven and hell … make my way towards the C/E subway …

2:35pm – Arrive @ Worldwide Plaza … sit in the shade and continue reading my book

2:45pm – Entire the island Def Jam office

3:00pm – My supervisor Ali informs us that there is going to be a meet and greet with Dondria aka Phatffatt (YouTube her)

3:15pm – Proceed to the meet and greet in the conference room … walk into a room full of basically every IMPORTANT label exec @ IDJ … Jermaine Dupri… L.A Reid… Steve Bartels … Lenny S… you get the picture

3:30pm – JD introduces Dondria … Dondria sings live while Ced Keyz plays the piano … I’m blown anyway … I’ve never been so close to someone with a vocal ability of her caliber… basically a 21 year old Beyonce vocally in my opinion .. Amazing … After previewing some of her album JD and Mr. Reid ask the audience for questions … 1 or 2 people ask questions … here’s my chance … raise my hand … Mr. Reid acknowledges … “You sir” … so I ask … “What is the vision/concept of Dondria album?” … Good fuckin question huh? … JD answers the question in depth … Meet and Great is over … I felt good actually blurting out that question … pat myself on the back

4:00pm – Start 2 binders worth of Mariah Carey Press from February and March of 2006 … she has A LOT of press … Ali lets me know that the professor finally got her the letter I need, thus I can finally get an IDJ keycard … proceed with upstairs with the letter to Anessa who is in charge of all the internship stuff … get my id card …. Happy … really happy … continue to work on Mariah Folder …

6:20pm – Day is basically done so Ali informs me I can go home

6:45pm – Reach Grand Central … look @ the train schedule to Stamford and realize that there is a train leaving in 2 mins … run like a maniac to the terminal … almost knock over a few people … run to the terminal only to see that there are a million people waiting on a train that isn’t there

6:55pm – Train finally comes … Shove myself to the front in order to get a seat … ahhh finally get to feel the A.C of the train and relax …

7:07pm – Exit the tunnel that causes me to lose service every time I’m texting my girlfriend … shuffle through the IPOD and land on “ALBUM – Coldplay – Viva La Vida”

7:10pm – While listening to the album I gaze @ the sun peering through the clouds beaming down on the apartment buildings in Harlem … beautiful… The scenery and the music going with it are like a fucking soundtrack to my life … Coldplay is the shit … Text Gabby explaining that Coldplay is the shit …

8:00pm – Finally arrive at Stamford Train Station

8:10pm – Home

8:30pm – Typing this ….

This is just on day but a basic view of my days interning in the city @ Island Def Jam … future P. Diddy? … hopefully one day …

*NOTE* - Before it gets mentioned here … someone asked me why I was listening to the Coldplay album when its not released till the 17th … here is my response

“I understand your question … I still buy albums … I downloaded this album honestly because I didn’t feel like waiting for the release date and i will STILL be purchasing the album … its THAT GOOD in my opinon and i’m the type of person who loves reading the inserts on who played what .. where it was recorded … who mixed it .. etc … other than that I usually get mixtapes or buy albums .. @ def jam i got a bunch of free albums too … most albums that have dropped arent even worth the DL anyway“

Diddy was an intern making a crazy commute to Uptown Records back in the day … so why WOULDN’T I do the same thing? As my good friend Sanzo tells me .. never HOPE … always say WILL … so i know this internship WILL lead me to bigger and better things …

some good shit glad to see you got a good internship there i might end up there on my internship too sounds like a good day compared to gettin coffee lol
