Lil' Wayne Cracks A Milli For Top Spot, Plies Keeps It "Real" At No. 2, Mariah Carey Goes Platinum

In this week's Hip-Hop and R&B charts, Lil'Wayne's Carter III lives up to expectations, Plies gives meaning to the definition of second fiddle, and Mariah Carey notches another platinum plaque to her belt.

DJs may or may not be dead, but they are clearly not collectively strong enough to stop Lil' Wayne's shine. Able to survive a much talked about internet leak, thanks to a mob of disgruntled DJs, Wanye's highly anticipated album, Carter III debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 1,005,500 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. With that Weezy a.k.a Young Moola becomes the first artist since 50 Cent in 2005, The Massacre, to sell more than 1 million copies of an album in a single week. The Carter III also tops Kanye West's Graduation which pushed 957,000 in its opening week last year on September 11.

The Sunshine State goon, Plies enters the charts at No. 2 with 215,000 copies of his sophomore album, Definition of Real, flying off shelves. The follow-up to 2007's The Real Testament, matched the peak position of his certified gold debut thanks to by his smash hit single "Bust It Baby Part. 2" featuring Ne-Yo. The disc also features appearances from other R&B luminaries such as Keyshia Cole, J. Holiday, Trey Songz and The Dream.

After topping the charts with what is now the third highest selling debut album of the year, Usher's sixth album Here I Stand falls back two spots from No. 3 to No. 5 this week. Hit with a 30% decrease in sales, the disc still sold an outstanding 101,000 copies. Powered by the hit single "Love In This Club" featuring Young Jeezy and the rising second single "Moving Mountains," Usher's certified gold album has moved 689,000 copies in just three weeks.

With their first album in over four years, the alternative rock/hip-hop trio N.E.R.D. -Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley, third studio album Seeing Sounds, debuts at No. 7 with 80, 000. The Star Trak/ Interscope set is the follow-up to the bands 2004 set, Fly or Die, which peaked at No. 6 on Billboard 200. The eclectic disc features the first single "Spaz," which was accompanied by a video featuring actress Lindsay Lohan. C.R.S (Child Rebel Soldiers), the super group featuring Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco also made an appearance on the album.

After debuting at No. 6 last week, the Princess of hip-hop and R&B, Ashanti's The Declaration descends seven notches to No. 13. The Universal Motown album was a harsh 61% decline in sales, but Shanti still was able to sell 34,000 copies this week. On the heels of her dazzling National Anthem performance at the NBA Finals, Ashanti's -Irv Gotti free disc has moved 120,400 copies in two weeks.

British songbird, Leona Lewis' Spirit drops three spots to No. 14. The sultry songstress moved 32,700 copies this week. In ten weeks, Lewis certified gold debut has sold 773,000 copies.

R&B Icon, Mariah Carey's chart-topping album E=MC2 continues to fall in standings, dropping eight notches to No.21. Experiencing a 10% decrease in sales, Carey's sixth studio album sold 27,000 copies this week. Despite the hit, the newlywed has another celebration to attend, as Mimi scored her sixth platinum plaque. After nine weeks, the IDJ set has reached 1,025,000 in sales.

After rising from the depths of the charts last week with his re-release of smash album, Exclusive, entering the Top No. 10, Chris Brown sinks back down 13 spots to No. 23 this week. Brown's sophomore effort sold 25,000 copies this week moving his grand total to 1,607,000 copies after 32 weeks.

Houston native, Bun-B moved 20,000 copies of his sophomore solo release II Trill, this week, making it good enough for the 29th spot on the charts. Led by the Sean Kingston assisted single "That's Gangsta," after four weeks the UGK member's set has amassed 183,000 albums.

Madonna's eleventh studio album, Hard Candy, sourly falls 17 spots to No. 31. The set is hit with a 29% decline in sales, moving 19,000 copies this week. In seven weeks, the pop icon certified gold album has sold 544,000 disc.

Mr. MI-YAYO, Rick Ross continues to free fall down the charts. Dropping 11 spots to No. 50, the "Boss" pushed 13,800 copies of his Trilla album this week. After 14 weeks, Ross' certified gold sophomore set has scanned 578,000 copies.

Worth mentioning, while Lil' Wayne made a powerful impact on the charts, his young protégé Tyga barely made a dent. The "Coconut Juice" rapper sold a mere 6,790 copies of his debut No Introduction. Apparently an introduction was needed.

I still think wayne's album is garbage...still don't know how I feel about that N.E.R.D album.

i haven't herd the whole cater album but i don't no if i would think its garbage based on the fact he got beats on that shit good enough to keep me listening and i herd he got some aii features on there too..even my moms best friend has one lol
