Default Update: Lil' Wayne Goes To Court On Drug Charges - 01-11-2007, 09:22 PM

After reportedly skipping out on a previous court date, Lil' Wayne showed up for his arraignment yesterday (October 31) on three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

As SOHH previously reported, the rapper (born Dwayne Michael Carter) was arrested in August of last year at the swanky Twelve Hotel in Atlanta. Police confiscated marijuana and the prescription drugs Xanax and hydrocodone.

After failing to show up to court, Weezy was picked up in Idaho last month on an Atlanta warrant.

But Wayne's attorney, William Head, said the rapper didn't intentionally miss that first court date, he didn't know about it. Head said the court notice was sent to Wayne's New Orleans residence - the home that was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina- according to E! News.

Head filed motions with the court yesterday claiming the hotel search was unlawful. But Wayne's team is saying the drugs didn't belong to the rapper anyway.

"We asked to examine the evidence so we can prove it has no connection to him," Head told the entertainment news outlet. "Let's see what the fingerprints are."

Because the rapper was arrested in Idaho on an ATL warrant, Wayne's also being charged with being a fugitive in Idaho. That charge will be handled in a Boise court.

While Wayne was in court in Atlanta, he was being named in a lawsuit by a Miami jewelry company. As SOHH previously reported, Wayne allegedly stopped payment on a $146,000 bill for a diamond ring and necklace.

Weezy's civil attorney, Ron Sweeney, claims that this too is a misunderstanding, but if Wayne is proven to in fact owe the money, he'll come forward with the cash.
