Default Nas Scores #1 Spot, Bow Wow Trails Behind, Young Jeezy Free Falls - 29-12-2006, 12:57 AM

In this week's Hip-Hop Charts, Nas resurrects the rap game, Bow Wow pays the price, and Young Jeezy slides to third.

Debuting on the Hip-Hop Charts at No. 1 this week is Nas. With the lead single, "Hip-Hop is Dead," regulating the tri-state airwaves and hype for the Hov collabo, "Black Republicans," causing commotion throughout much of the hip-hop community, the Queensbridge legend has topped the competition this week by a long shot. The sales for Hip-Hop is Dead, Nas' first release on Def Jam which features cameos with The Game, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West, to name a few, read off at 355,000.

Debuting at No. 6 this week is Bow Wow. The Chris Brown-featured "Shorty Like Mine" has helped the Ohio rapper to round in big units for The Price of Fame. After extensive BET, MTV, and other major promo, Bow Wow has moved 261,000 decent units.

Tumbling seventeen slots to No. 18 is Young Jeezy. After debuting at No. 1 last week, the Def Jam recording artist has fallen hard but is still helping to keep the legendary record label on top for fourth quarter, bangin' it out with 184,900 discs sold. To date, Jeezy has surpassed the gold, moving 538,400 copies.

Next up is Eminem and his Shady camp, slipping ten slots to land at No. 23. This week, Em and his peoples have made off with 152,400 units, bringing the total to 613,400 after 3 weeks on the charts.

Making a come-up on the charts this week is Jay-Z, coming in at No. 27. The Brooklyn MC has made a five-step comeback on the charts, as the total for Kingdom Come sits tight at 1,145,900. Hova has scored 136,000 more discs this week, compared to last week's 86,700.

Coming in at No. 38 this week is Snoop Dogg. Blue Carpet Treatment has still been getting it in, sitting at official gold status. After 5 weeks, Snoop has moved 587,000 copies, with the week-in total reading off at 97,700.

Debuting on the charts this week at No. 48 is Trick Daddy. The Florida rapper hasn't bagged enough attention to make an impressive entrance in the rap race, with his numbers reading off at 87,300 for week one.

Stepping up a few slots is Ludacris, coming in at No. 57. Ludacris has finished with 938,800 copies thus far, with the 7-day cycle ending at 67,200.

Turning the tables, Justin Timberlake brings sexy back, Akon follows close behind, Ciara holds it down, Beyonce makes a comeback, Fergie keeps going, and Mary J. Blige goes for round two. Taking down the No. 9 seat is Justin Timberlake. The pop star is back on top of the competition this week with 229,800 discs sold, a big jump from last week's numbers reading off at 116,000. To date, Justin has finished off with 2,294,500 copies. Also jumping big numbers is Akon, coming in at No. 10. After 5 weeks, Konvicted has been doing extremely well, with the numbers reading off at 1,045,800 in total. This week, Akon has finished off with 227,200 discs. Gracefully televising the evolution this week is Ciara, coming in at No. 11. The southern hummingbird has stepped up since last week's 164,100, as the week-ending reflects 219,900 units sold. Evolution has sold 723,400 after 3 weeks. Bringin' it back this week is Beyonce, moving up seven slots No. 13. Beyonce moved 212,900 discs this week, with the total sitting on the tip of official double-platinum status at 1,943,400. Swapping seats in the pop competition is Fergie, losing to Beyonce this time around but still landing at No. 16 with 198,100 units sold. To date, Ferg has made off with 1,143,700 CDs. And last but not least is Mary J, coming for the No. 23 seat. The hits compilation has banged it out with 327,400 copies sold after 2 weeks. This week, the numbers have rounded off at 155,700.

Next week, look out for Omarion and Mos Def to make their appearances on the charts.
