Werd... I agree, I don't blame the Internet as much, because I believe overall, if it's good music people will give it attention, I believe there's alot of crap out there saturating the market, but as a community we've always had bad and good, but we rely on the public to weed the dope tracks for themselves...
I hate to state the obvious, but this is the first time we have alot of people stating that Hiphop is dead...I think it's because of the wackass dirty south! I'm not hating, I'm actually from the south and I give props to the good tracks & artists that are released from the south. There's just way too much biting and not enough originality coming from the south, and I think that's where the argument comes in that really divides the southern hiphop style to the northern/eastcoast and westcoast styles...
Remember back in the 90's when you had the east coast/west coast beef? Of course alot had to do with BIG and 2pac, but it was also because of the different styles and beats...but back then you had your choice of biggie, 2pac, tribe called quest, outkast, countless R&B artists and more...
I personally believe that these dirty south songs are not going to be played back in the future as classics, as we still play biggie and 2pac's songs for example, still to this day...It's a lack-luster attempt lyrically and morally (message wise)...They are just not saying anything we haven't heard before and not being creative with it... plain and simple.
