Default Computer problem!!! [FIXED] - 08-01-2009, 03:18 PM

Okay so I recently bought a completely blank computer and shit right. So I go to install xp and then I come across this shit:

THERES NO DRIVES!!!

Wait...I think there are (i mean it is a 160 GB one) but since this is my first time ever installing xp on a completely blank computer I think I have to configure the BIOS or something because its custom built or some shit like that.

I also get this error message:

SOMEBODY like CP or someone please help!!!

Quote:
Hey Ricardo,

I'm thinking that what this is caused by was that we originally used IDE drives in the computers, then SATA. Before selling I had to pull the SATA drives because there's still tons of stuff we had on it, and we put more IDE drives back in the computers. So 2 things come to mind:

I can't recall what we did when we went from IDE to SATA... I think I had to do some BIOS setup change , but am not sure. I'll check the motherboard manual tonight (it's an Abit NF7) and see what instructions it gave me on going from IDE to SATA, and just do the reverse.

The second thing is that the drives I put in were setup on Master and Slave on the IDE to the motherboard. The CD/DVD drives should be on IDE already, its possible that I put that on the primary IDE. So, if you feel comfortable w/ working with hardware, you can open the cover and check to ensure that the IDE cable from the CD/DVD go to the secondary IDE connector on the motherboard. The hard drives should go to the primary IDE connector.

The third thing i'd check is the setting on the back of the hard drives. The hard drive closer to the motherboard on the IDE cable should be set up for 16 GB clip / Master, and the hard drive further from the motherboard on the IDE cable should be setup for 16 GB clip / Slave.

I'd check for those things in the order I describe above. If it turns out that the BIOS setting doesn't do it and there's no simple jumper to move if described in the Abit NF7 motherboard we can start looking at the hardware. If you don't feel comfortable picking apart the hard drives etc, just let me know and we can setup a time to meet at the mall again and I can take a look inside with you.

I'll let you know what I find out tonight (probably > 11, after work I have something from 7-10 tonight). Don't worry, we'll get it working.

Thanks,
Ram

thats wat dude said to me that i bought it from in an email....NOW WTF!!!! I dont computers THAT well

I'll try and sort the no drives problem first.

I can't seem to download your motherboard manual from the abit site :/

But basically go into your bios and look for Boot Device Priority and change it so it looks for the SATA drive first.

try it when u've changed that.

When did u get the blue screen? What did u do to get it?
