    i thought i heard summ ppl sayin they have software that detects bpm n shit.. aint that what your ears are for??
    i may have heard wrong tho but if i heard right, aint that technically cheatin lol

    anyway.. all i use is audacity, not many effects to play with but it does the job (jus check my shit )

    well acid has a program that lets you select a bar from the track and it works out the bpm from that, its not really cheating since its mainly for stretching the track so it syncs better and aint all choppy

    if u r lookin' for program that shows correct bpm,i think that traktordjstudio is what u need.

    For Produce i use Sony ACID pro.7
    Making The instrumental (Mellody) I used FuityLoops
    and i used Audition n cool edit for the other things..

    for mixing i use sound forge 9.0 and audacity
    for producing i use FL studio 7 with various plugins and Reason 4

    Definitely Serato for DJ'n....then I use Nuendo for remixing and making mixtapes. Got Logic but havnt worked with it much...looks tuff though

    Depending On Your Experience For Recording I Use Pro Tools 8 And CuBase 4, But If Youre Just Learning I Would Advise Adobe Audition Or Cool Edit Pro 2, And For Beat Making I Use FL Studio 8 But I Have Tons Of Vst's And Sound Packs, And You Can Also Use Pro Tools And Cubase For Beat Making, And As Far As D Jaying If You're Really A D.J. You Still Got Cd's But Sometimes I Get Lazy Myself And Use Virtual D.J. 6
