Whats up T-1
First of all if u want to become a DJ make sure that you are really serious about it, even when getting cheap equipment, it all still gets pretty expensive.
K turntables is the way to start, depending on what u want. Im a vinyl person but others like to go with the cd players now. If you looking for vinyl there are packages you can buy. I know that theres a Newmark starter pack you can get for about $200 - $400 that comes with 2 turntables a mixer and some headphones. Not the best you can get, but great for starting. I personally enjoy vinyl over cd because when using vinyl u can still get serato or any other DJ program to play mp3's on ur tables.
Once you got tables, you will need speakers to hook them up to, they dont have to be real good speakers, just something you can plug audio/video cables (red, yellow, white cables)
Thats pretty much all you need to get starting. After that you can move on to better speakers, tables, lighting, and all the other stuff.

check audiolines.com for specials....ask for daniel and tell him DJ Lonestar sent u.....hell hook u up
and if ur serious about dj'in dont buy any of those starter kits because they usually fuck up on u quick and theyre cheaply made.....do ur research on each table b4 u buy....trust me it will be worth it once u find the right pair for u

Just to continue on with his advice, which is good advice but i have a diff approach... I've seen many ppl get interested and quit and many ppl fall in love, but either way you need to get ok equipment... you can get some refurbished TECHNICS 1200 pretty well priced and a used mixer pretty well priced... check ebay constantly... with mixers I prefer vestax... the PMC06 i believe is fairly good priced new and a great mixer. Also, needles make the world of a difference... go ahead and spring for the SHURE M447's...
Remember, if you take care of your equipment you can always get some OK resale value out of it so it's not like once the money is spent its gone forever... ifyou decide its not for you, you can resell it obviously for less but make some back.
Also, don't feel like you HAVE to buy it all at once man... one month get a table, next month get a table, next couple of months save up for mixer and needles ETC ETC... most ppl cant afford to get all of it at once so just don't feel like its a must.

just continuing on what other people have been saying
note that if ur gonna get turntables, make sure u get direct drive turntables
you can't dj with belt drive tables
also, used technics are just as good as new ones
once you get your equipment, the next thing i can says is practice practice practice
listen to other people's mixes, see what you like, try and emulate it or use it for inspiration
just immerse yourself in the whole world of djing check out forums like this and others
most of all have fun play tunes you like, or it won't be fun for you find your own style and if it sounds good to your ears, don't let other people tell you its bad

DJ Erick | Hmmm....I have heard nothing but bad reviews about starter packs/battle packs.
The general rule of thumb here is buy cheap, buy twice. For vinyl, I'd say save up a little more if you can and get used technics, or, you can go the way I did and try to find a cheaper knock-off. I bought a couple new Gemini TT-04s for $400 and they have been AWESOME so far (10 months), with no problems (although they may be more expensive now). I read around other dj forums and have seen people say their TT-04s have been going strong for longer than mine, so I'd recommend them based on that. Thing about buying Tables is that Vinyl costs MONEY, so I'd say pay for Serato, Traktor, or Torq up front and you'll make the money back in no time from the money you save.
As for your mixer, which the poster I quoted didn't really mention, but is pretty necessary to mix with, I'd say you should stay away from the cheaper stuff because their faders tend start to bleed really quickly, and you might get frustrated with your gear breaking. Again, save some money, and buy good gear. Not only will you be more into DJing because you have invested a big chunk of change, but you'll be able to use your stuff for much longer before you'll have to get it fixed or buy new shit.

I honestly believe that if you are thinking of becoming a DJ you should start in your bedroom making blends with programs before you invest any real money in equipment. Equipment for anything can be coastly and when you are talking about buying Turntables you talking about spending 100's if not close to 1000 so with that being sad you should be completely sure that djing is what you want to do before you go out buying things that you will end up selling for cheaper then you spent when you get over this "i wanna dj phase"
Programs like Virtual Dj are the leading in mixing programs. You can do a lot with it and then if you do enjoy mixing (like you will) then you can get hardware that words perfectly with the software plus i honestly believe that you can learn the logistics of mixing a lot more if you were using software computers have a way of making everything easier

forget about softwares , try it on someone's turntables.
you want to become a dj forget about everything else , get some TTs , a mixer with a sharp cut in time , and learn how to cut , juggle , and mix .
don't waste your time with softwares , would you learn how to play guitar with a software ?
you can get some decent cheap gear but i sugest to invest in quality gear wich you will be able to sell if you give up dj'ing ,
anyways just try it out first , watch some videos and read about it . | |
