Thanks for taking the time to do this interview Shid Latta. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm Shid (pronounced Sheed) Latta or ShidLatta666, I'm 26 , from Baltimore, MD, I was born x-mas day, I have the attention span of a fucking 5 year old and I feel like I'm one of the realest, most genuine artists ever to breath or bleed.

Is there a story behind your name Shid Latta?
Actually, my rap name is my real name, Rashid Latta. I figured if I'm making my music as honest and true to my life as possible, then the only name that deserves to be associated with my shit is my own, no alter ego shit or nothing like that. And the 666 is funny cause I was creating a Gmail account and Shid@gmail.com was taken so they suggested Shid666@gmail.com and I liked the sound of it. So when I started recording I decided to use as a way to stand out, grab your attention and peak your curiosity. And basically make it my stamp/my brand. So after you hear my music 666 will have a whole new meaning! The mark of that 'Shid Shit'!

How long have you been rapping?
I'm 26, I wrote my first rap when I was 6 and I would rap for fun with my niggas and at school and recording shit like that for years but in mid 2008 or some shit I stopped completely. Plus I was never serious with it I was just good at it. But around 2010-2011 a lot of music that was coming out bored the fuck out of me, so around March 2011 I got motivated and serious. I picked up a pen and it must've fused to my hand because I haven't been able to put it down since.

What first got you interested in becoming a rapper?
I had been rapping for years for fun but in 2010-2011 I started getting really tired of hearing the same niggas all rapping like each other about the same shit and they were lying. So I figured I actually live the shit they talking bout and can flow better. From that point on I have been on a mission.

    What/who inspires your music?
My life and the people in it. Most people may sit and write whole songs but I actually write my life. So if I'm doing something 4 bars might pop in my head bout it and I write them in my phone. 2 days later I may have 3 songs but in bits and pieces so I put together parts that go best with what the beat makes me feel. Almost like a lyrical journal.

Do you see being a rapper as a career, or as a hobby?
I'm looking forward to making it a career. It was a hobby for too long and time and skill got wasted.

What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
Money is always awesome! But just the fact that I get to share my world with others is cool as fuck. And if I can change or gain anything from the music game in the process then that'll work too. But I just want to make music that's true to my heart, that people feel, and then I'll reap the benefits of it.

Have you ever performed live? How did it feel?
A few times a long ass fucking time ago and it was the shit! I enjoyed that shit! I'm trying to get back into it and get back at it and out there more and interact with people, fans and artists alike, face to face so hopefully there's more to come in the future.

Do you have any kind of management, publishing or distribution team behind you? If so what are their responsibilities?
Nope, not yet. It's just me.

What are some accomplishments that you have achieved, and are most proud of?
Being the man I am today and the fact I'm not dead or in jail and when you mention me to my mom, dad, grandmom, or anybody in my family they smile because they are proud of me. For things like working with handicapped to teaching and mentoring my peers at my current job. And just being true to me. I try to be the best me as possible...Even though it's hard as fuck sometimes lol.

Have you ever made any contact with major artists or other high positioned people in the music industry and do you keep in contact with them?
I have had a few industry people, artist and a&r's, who praised and followed me or whatever on a few social networking sites but it wasn't anything major. They followed me, maybe sent a message, and that was that.

What one tip would you give to other aspiring rappers?
Be true, be you, and shit will come thru! Cause god blessed the child that holds his own. And People tend to follow trends and shit and I think that may take away from your art form and possibly who you are as a person.

What do you see is in the future for the music industry? How do you think it will evolve/change?
The internet has changed everything by making shit more accessible and people can be introduced to shit they may have never heard of. So I think this will cause the industry to continue to grow and progress and genres to merge and it will become more and more interactive and fan based and driven.

Do you feel like the internet is helping you as an underground artist?
Fuck yea lol, I'm able to reach and interact with people I never would have been able to before. Plus shit is instant, push a few buttons and you're worldwide. I literally have fans all across the globe...from Maryland to Madrid...Virginia to Viet Man.

How do you think social networks such as Facebook and Twitter have affected the music industry?
I think it has improved it by making it more interactive and fan driven. So that the people in it have to work harder to please and reach the people who matter most... the fans. And the artists get to connect with them and each other more easily and they can express themselves more freely and frequently than before.

Where can we hear your music online?

What projects are you working on at the moment?
I'm all over the place right now! I'm working on an album with my nephew DjK with all production by him and hopefully I can get him to bless it with a few bars. I'm working on something with my man Al Stead of Pornstars. I'm doing a feature on my man Mdotcook upcoming joint. I wanna start on a volume 3 to my Heath Ledger Chronicles soon. I'm also looking for venues to perform at and start making some videos at some point. Also I got back into graphic design and making t-shirts. Hopefully I can find time for all of it!

Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years time?
I plan for this art to be my career and to have made a name for myself. I want to put my stamp/my brand on the map, as I watch the number of people I reach continue to grow. And continue to grind, love my art fans and family, and be true and always enjoy what I do. And make enough money to live comfortably and buy my parents and grandmom homes paid for flat out.

Do you have any shoutouts you want to give?
Definitely! First to you, thank you...I truly appreciate it! Also to anyone reading this! My fans, My Fam, my niggas, ducksawz, Djk, Al, Mdotcook, Dj Burn One cuz I recorded some shit to a few of his tracks of his beat cd 'Ashtray' lls, and everybody I fuck wit and don't fuck wit!

Thanks again Shid Latta for doing this interview.
    Thank you!
