titled Planet 7P
, so we caught up and interviewed him, check out what he had to say below.
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview Apademik. Tell us a bit about yourself, your name, age, where you’re from and an interesting fact if you like.
My name is Apademik The Disciple, I am a Producer for Long Island, New York based Hip-Hop/Dance music group 7 Profitz.
I have been on projects that were released on Koch Records, Babygrande Records, The Orchard, Tunecore, and my label Funkin Beatz Entertainment Corp. to name a few.
Is there a story behind your name Apademik?
I am a Leo, which is associated with a Lion. I based my name off of the Lion Headed God, Apedemak, because I have been walking the Earth like you for thousands of years. That is why my name is "Apademik The Disciple."
How long have you been rapping/singing?
I starting performing vocally very young, and started actually writing my own music when I was 10 years old. I stepped into my first studio in 1998, so professionally since 1998.
What first got you interested in becoming a rapper/singer?
When I was 16, myself and a few friends of mine recorded hours of freestyle sessions in a local DJ's basement in Franklin Square, New York. Every time I rhymed I would say a few funny things and I could get people to laugh so it was fun.
What/who inspires your music?
Now that I am older, the most important thing is making music is a passion. Wether I'm DJ'ing, Singing, Rhyming, Producing, or Directing I have to love what I do, while I am doing it. Being responsible for producing 7 Profitz is the most done for me.
Do you see being a rapper/singer as a career, or as a hobby?
Either way, it is a passion. So the real answer is, what do you consider it?
What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
My goal is to have One million people listen to my music for the first time after they download it on iTunes. www.Itunes.com/7Profitz
, isn't that every musicians goal?
Have you ever performed live? How did it feel?
I personally love performing live. Even performing in front of one person is live. I've performed in front of over a thousand people, and been more nervous performing in front of one person. Live is always a good whatever the venue. Why do you need a DJ?
Do you have any kind of management, publishing or distribution team behind you? If so what are their responsibilities?
Recently myself and my group 7 Profitz signed a Publishing deal with one of the largest Publishing companies in the United States.
What are some accomplishments that you have achieved, and are most proud of?
I won a Silver Auddy award for 7 Profitz - On The Rise, and recently won Best DJ In Long Island 2012, thank you for asking.
Have you ever made any contact with major artists or other high positioned people in the music industry and do you keep in contact with them?
I try to keep in contact with people, I would be interested in working with a whole list of people. I try to only work with the people who are honest to me, and who I vibe with. I am very mission oriented.
What one tip would you give to other aspiring rappers/singers?
Good luck. And email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
, and go to Apademik.com
for my services. I have instrumentals for a reasonable fee. Larger selling artists can work something out with me too. Contact me there.
