how to get a clean recordings from any mic?

Just to let you know, first of all I have a Radio Shack Uni-Dynamic Microphone that for $24.99, it's nearly compares to a Shure, but it has a frequency response of 50Hz to 16KHz, instead of 50Hz to 15KHz like the Shure have. And before I got the Radio Shack Mic I used a Philips Universal Uni-Directional Dynamic Mic from Wal-Mart. To get a clean record sound, first check your windows volume settings. Make sure the microphone mute box is check. Even tho the mic is mute, it will still record, but it will eliminate the background noise. After recording each part of your vocals (verses, chorus, hooks, adlibs, etc.), put each one of them on the single waveform editor (if you have CoolEdit or Adobe Audition), and use your mouse to highlight a part of the verse when you have said nothing on (between words or even at the beginning where nothing was spoken through the mic), and goto the Noise Reduction. Once there click on the button to get info from the selected waveform. After clicking this, it should of drawn the noise on the monitor on the left side of the screen. Now click preview, if you hear no mic feedback, then click OK. Once back at the single-waveform screen, use the mouse to highlight the whole waveform now, and go back into the Noise Reduction effect, now you should still see the drawn noise on the monitor, just click on Preview. You should now only hear your vocals and nothing else. Click OK, and watch how smooth the line is between each part of the verse, if you have any clicks, highlight it and click on the effect and Silence it. Now do all the rest (verses, hooks, adlibs, and choruses), and you'll have clean vocals with no background nor mic distortion feedback, and it will be easier to mix effects in it, to make a great mix.

this doesn't always work because using the noise reduction filter could give you a distorted sound on your vocals that will make it sound weird

and recording on mute may make your vocals too low and turning them up too high or amplifying too strong could make them sound distorted with a horrible echo effect

what you should do is make sure your mic is turned up so it captures your vocals better then use tha distortion effect to clean up any distortion and i recommend the hiss reduction because the his will be removed from the background

and sometimes the hiss or background noise is contributed to the wire you are using for your mic and your pc's soundcard so you want to make sure you have the newest drivers for your sound card and that your recording at a good vocal level from the mic so it sounds cleaner

if you want a clean sound just record in your closet filled with clothes... thats what i do and my shit sounds professional.... might also have to do with my Mbox2 interface....

shit get the emu 0404 soundcard. $99 cant berat that and as far a mic. Condenser mic are so cheap there no reason to use a dynamic mic. I paid $30 my my condenser mic. I have a stage works cc12. Then I have a $39 mic pre amp made by ART. My recordings sounds great.

shit to get a clean signal just get an audio interface. my mackie onyx satellite is so quiet when i record silence is a dead flatline with no hiss or external noise. for a good recording well that all depends on your recording technique, and where u place your mic in the room.

what i do is this...i record in samplitude 8 but it can be any program...i make sure the levels (vocals) are even...

then i mute the inst. track and export it out as a wave.

then i put it in FL 7..on fl 7 theres a mixer preset that takes out the air and gets that shit sounding good.

after that i render it out at 48k hz and put it back into samplitude and voila..fuckin magic.

one more thing i never use the mic boost in the audio properties.it puts way too much air in your jawn!!!!
