Just move to the right section if this isn't it
We're going to learn how to make a simple 1-2 bootleg (mash-up). In this tutorial, i'm gonna show you, in detail, how I made 'The Next Look'.
Ok, firstly, to follow this tutorial, i'm gonna assume that you can hear where a loop (bar) starts and ends (1... 2... 3... 4... ), and with that knowledge, can cut a loop that er... actually loops and sounds... proper.
Secondly, these programs will come in handy -
Either Sony SoundForge or Audacity (free download
here) for cutting loops.
Sony ACID (or any other sequencer that you're familiar with) for arranging the samples.
And lastly, I expect you all to know what I mean when I say 'thingy'.
Samples -
Nas - Made You Look (Acapella) (already cut :D)
The Next Episode (Instrumental) (un-cut :D:D:D)
First open up ACID and load the samples into the sequencer (just cancel the beatmapper), and draw your samples into the sequencer (hold your mouse over one of the
channels and the mouse pointer should turn into a pencil, then click and drag until the end of the sample (make sure enable snapping (F8) is on so you're drawing the samples in right from the very start).
Zoom right out and you'll notice that the acappella is longer then the instrumental, the instrumental also fades out at the end.
So we need to extend the instrumental and cut out the bit where it fades :D
Close ACID and open SoundForge/Audacity and load the instrumental.
First, we need to cut the fade out, so click somewhere around 2:25 and listen from there, watch very closely and click stop on the last loop before it fades, zoom in and repeat until you have zoomed right in (should be 00:2:30.899 +/- a few milliseconds), highlight everything after that -
Then edit>>>delete (clear)
Now zoom out a bit and look at the peaks, we're gonna cut a 1 bar long loop, you should be able to pick out 1 loop by just looking at it -

This is a loop that I just picked out from the current zoom level, (at the bottom right you can can see the start time, end time and duration if anyone wants to cheat), you still need to zoom in and highlight from the starting point to the ending point of your loop, then copy it (remember to highlight it in both channels) and paste it in a new thingy (just use the default settings), save both cuts at atleast 192kbps or WAV.
It Should sound like
this.
So you should have 'Nas - Made You Look' already cut, The Next Episode with the fade cut out and a little loop of The Next Episode, time to arrange (sequence) these in ACID. Open up ACID and load the acappella into channel 1, the instrumental with the fade cut out into channel 2 and the loop into channel 3 (cancel the beatmapper each time it pops up), before you draw anything in right click on channel 1, go to properties and make sure 'one-shot' is selected in the drop down box, do the same for channel 2 and channel 3 should be set to 'loop', then sequence the samples however you want :D I usually use the play bar to mark the exact end of the instrumental by zooming as far in as I can to mark the exact end and then drag the loop to the right of the play bar so it's a seamless mix (turn off enable snapping (F8)).
My final sequence -
Saved ACID file if anyone wants to remix a remix.
And my finished
track if anyone wants to listen.
Hope that came in handy kids
